Position Highlights
The Western Environmental Science Technical Assistance Center for Environmental Justice (WEST EJ Center) is seeking a highly motivated environmental health sciences research specialist The mission of the WEST EJ Center is to work as authentic partners with communities towards environmental and energy justice by being a one-stop shop for hands-on technical assistance, multi-faceted training, and other eligible forms of assistance, resources, and support to community members. The grants management research specialist will work directly with the Associate Director and program coordinator and directly engage with community members, partners and other key stakeholders when necessary. Duties & Responsibilities Plans, organizes and conducts research studying entities by examining, assessing, evaluating and modeling spatial data for use in projects related to the WEST EJ Center. Use GIS to conduct research tailored to specific areas and communities..  Develop and maintain air sensor lending library. This includes handling sensor reservations, loan agreements, and ensuring the timely and accurate distribution and return of sensor units.  Conducting research related to environmental health environmental health study design and sampling and analysis methods, including GIS.  Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in renewable energy policy landscape, including changes in legislation, funding opportunities, and governmental initiatives. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of GIS software and datasets related to environmental and energy justice (e.g., EPA EJScreen). Knowledge of personal and ambient air sensors. Knowledge of environmental health and exposure science sampling and analysis methods. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with different groups/individuals in English Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn new skills. Tasks may require investigation of multiple alternatives to support community member requests, requiring some innovation and creativity in consultation with program coordinator and associate director. Ability to work independently and meet desired expectations. Attention to detail and excellent skills in time management and documentation of tasks. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. Preferred Qualifications * Master's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required in environmental health, exposure science, GIS, or a related field. Up to 1 year of relevant work experience.
