Overview
WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine is seeking a detail oriented Research Navigator. The Research Navigator serves as a resource to WMed investigators (students, residents, and faculty) initiating investigator-led research studies. The Research Navigator collaborates with WMed investigators to ensure the efficient and logical work-flow needed for successful research projects, including, but not limited to, preparation of realistic project time-lines, identification of research resources needed for planning and execution, referrals to appropriate research support services, tracking of protocol development, and assistance with the regulatory submission process. Additionally, the Research Navigator connects medical students, graduate students, and residents with faculty investigators willing to mentor trainees to provide as many research opportunities as possible.
Responsibilities
* Serves as point person and liaison for investigators requesting research support services within WMed. Support service providers include but are not limited to Center for Clinical Research staff, Biomedical Informatics/Data Analytics Services Unit (data management and biostatistics), medical librarians, faculty advisors, IACUC, IBC, and IRB administrative staff.
* Facilitates project kick-off meeting with investigators and other members of the support services team to determine project scope and feasibility. This may include working with WMed, hospital affiliates, and/or community engaged partners to assist with institutional approvals.
* Independently tracks project requests, feedback, and other inquiries, troubleshooting project barriers, to ensure timely project development.
* Assists with the development of study timelines and establishes realistic expectations for study milestones. Updates timeline as needed during the life-cycle of the project.
* Reviews and provides feedback on operational and regulatory aspects of the study design and protocol.
* Identifies research gaps/challenges and participates in process improvement projects.
* Instructs investigators on requirements for research data files and archiving.
* Assists in disseminating information on research processes and opportunities to WMed students (medical and graduate), residents, faculty, and staff.
* Availability to work on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
* Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
* Oversees web site research content and ensure that the information provided is current.
* Assists with special initiatives and projects as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Biomedical Science, or related field required
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic, hospital, or pharmaceutical clinical research setting with a working knowledge of regulatory compliance including protocol development or project management experience required
* Familiarity with research accreditations such as Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) and/or Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC)
* Experience preparing IRB submissions and compliance with regulatory requirements for research
* Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines for the conduct of human subjects research (including HIPAA)
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:
* Certification as Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC), Clinical Research Associate (CRA), or Certified IRB Professional (CIP) desirable.
* Training in Protection of Human Subjects and Good Clinical Practice required
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
* Strong analytic skills and the ability to manage multiple, complex activities while maintaining close attention to detail.
* Strong organizational abilities and demonstrated success in meeting multiple deadlines.
* Sound professional judgment, excellent problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
* Demonstrated ability to utilize common software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint; ability to learn new software as required and remain proficient in all programs necessary to perform duties of this position

The W.E.
