Details of the offer

Under the general direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor) of the Wildlife Biodiversity Program in Region 5, incumbent will support the regional Wildlife, Fisheries and Lands (WFL) and Habitat Conservation Planning (HCP) units to collect and assemble data bases, prepare reports and summaries of the data bases, assemble and analyze spatial data, and assist staff with Global Information Systems (GIS) modeling. Incumbent performs technical GIS research and analysis related to landscape level monitoring, multi-species conservation planning and natural resource management, including providing technical assistance with applications and equipment used in conjunction with biological field surveys for plant and animal species, habitat evaluations, and data collection and entry. Incumbent generates digital spatial data, reports, maps and compilations of collected data for multiple purposes and audiences. Incumbent is an active participant in the South Coast Region Species and Natural Communities Monitoring and Assessment Project, Regional Resource Assessment Program, State Wildlife Grant and implements the State Wildlife Action Plan.

Working Conditions
Office will be located in San Diego. The position will be primarily office based and will involve sitting to work on the assignments outlined in the duties. There will be occasional travel for meetings, workshops and training and some time to assist staff as needed for data collection that will be analyzed.

Special Requirements
Ability to use a computer keyboard several hours a day. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods. Attend meetings and hearings; work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Occasional travel may be required.

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Proficiency using ESRI products such as ArcGIS Pro, SharePoint and associated tools such as Dashboards, and managing databases. Experience working with other agencies/partners in collecting and analyzing complex datasets. Knowledge of drones operation using Arc GIS Site Scan. Ability to communicate effectively, solve critical and complex problems, form intelligent conclusions, and be able to articulate a solution to people unfamiliar with GIS. Able to communicate in a clear, concise, and effective manner both verbally and in writing.
