**Position overview** :

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a Research Associate to join the Materials Sciences Department within the Science, Research and Development (SRD) Division at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS). In this position, you will leverage a background in X-ray scattering to utilize X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL) capabilities for soft condensed matter studies. The upcoming LCLS hard X-ray high repetition rate upgrade will enable capabilities in the structural characterization of heterogenous and mesoscale systems as well as studies of the kinetics and dynamics of soft matter systems using scattering, imaging and coherent scattering techniques. To position the soft matter materials research area to best utilize these new capabilities, the candidate will engage in targeted R&D technique development in critical areas.

The candidate will participate in experiments at LCLS instruments to develop advanced characterization techniques relevant to soft matter systems such as time resolved SAXS/WAXS, XPCS, and coherent imaging techniques. They will support experiments at the Coherent X-ray Imaging (CXI) instrument, particularly in the area of time-resolved small unit cell crystallography.

It is expected the candidate will support the CXI team and Materials Science Department for optimal use of the facility. The candidate is expected to engage in scientific research and help to develop new scientific directions.

**Note** : Research Associates at SLAC are fixed term appointments. This is a 2-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension. Assignment duration is contingent upon project needs and funding.
