GENERAL SUMMARY The Ranch Foreman is responsible for directing, and coordinating the operation of building maintenance, machine maintenance, grounds maintenance, and agricultural maintenance. This position is responsible for training, and supervising Ranch Hands and other Ranch staff as assigned by leadership. This position will assist in the day-to-day activities of the operations when Ranch Manager is not on site.
This position ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, and on occasion, later hours or weekend time may be required with project deadlines and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is essential at all times. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform. This list of responsibilities is intended to be representative of the duties performed within this classification. Property and Equipment Maintain ranch infrastructures such as fences, ponds, roads, corals, water systems, and buildings including construction, repair, and maintenance. Oversee ranch projects. Supervise Ranch Hands and provide mentorship and opportunities for growth. Ranch beautification and projects including lawn mowing, weed eating, barn cleaning, vehicle cleaning. Maintenance and upkeep of ranch equipment, vehicles, and facilities. Heavy equipment operation and maintenance (tractors, skid steers, backhoe's). Game management - manage feeders, stands, and improve forestry, natural areas, and water projects. Ensure protection of animals in extreme weather conditions. Monitor cattle herds by performing visual inspections of the cattle, food, and water sources. Feed, tag animals per schedule. Rotate pastures and ranging process. Raising and birthing of livestock. Support cattle and hay operations per leases requirements. Verify and ensure all feeders are properly filled and maintained. Monitor health of animals, address issues, and contact veterinary services as needed. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience 5 years of recent experience performing related farm, ranch, or animal husbandry work. OR a comparable combination of approved education and/or recent related work experience. Must have experience running ranch equipment such as UTV's, Quads, Ranch Trucks, Tractors, and likewise equipment. Must be willing to work in all weather, during odd hours, and travel as needed. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider. Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity. Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes. SUPERVISION This position supervises, trains, and evaluates Ranch Hand Staff.
COMPETENCIES Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the primary responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of: General ranch work. Farm equipment such as tractors, animal feeders, and brush mowers. Equine care and needs. Ranch operations. Ability to: Lead and supervise others. Maintain effective working relationships with employees, and Menagers. Consider safety in all decisions. Successfully perform the responsibilities of this position. Guide, direct, and motivate subordinates- Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Assign tasks such as feeding, treatment of animals, and cleaning/maintenance of animal quarters. Teach, train, and share information effectively. Ride and handle horses independently. Perform detailed work as assigned by the General Manager. Lift up to 80lbs, including heavy materials and equipment. Maintain courteous and effective working relationships and to work with a diverse group of people. Use a variety of tools. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS The work environment and exposures described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary responsibilities of this job. Work will be conducted indoor and outdoor and may be exposed to fluctuations in temperature while in and around Nisqually Indian Tribe. You may be exposed to all types of weather to include but not limited to summer heat, winter cold, humidity, rain, snow, wind, and any other weather conditions experienced at the property. May be exposed to normal conditions related to the position i.e., noise from vehicles, machines, tools, customers, employees, dust, pollen, odors, wildlife etc. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger; handle; feel; or grip objects, stretch and/or reach with hands and arms; stoop; crouch or work in cramped or awkward positions; repetitive motions; operate hand tools (may include operating heavy machinery), office machinery and motor vehicles . This person may regularly lift and/or move up to 80+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus. Specific work assignments may change without notice.
