The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for representing Bernhard's corporate commitment to "Brand" consistency; by an overview of product and installation techniques as dictated by the Corporate Quality Assurance Manual/Procedures.
Specific responsibilities include: Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Facility safety standards and practices while alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern. Documents all inspection results by completing required reports and logs timely, summarize required re-work, input required data into quality databases as needed. Conducts fabrication inspections to provide support by observing and report the quality of the installation, control measuring and compliance to the contract specifications as well as construction codes. This includes the work of company employees and monitoring subcontractor work in the same way. Witnesses and documents testing as well as any other record-keeping for the department as needed. Provides notifications to the fabrication team and corporate regarding findings, solutions, responsible party, and deadlines for correction. Assures that all required Quality Control inspection points have been completed for the assembly and verifies that all documentation is accurate and complete for the fab package. Ensure company standards outlined in the quality control manual are prioritized and effectively implemented. Maintains lessons learned to share with all projects. Partners with the facility management team to support the facility's quality goals and helps ensure that the facility meets both internal and external customer expectations. Interacts with project managers and teams daily and encourage the implementation of corporate quality control processes. Works with staff to promote and ensure the successful transition from fabrication to manufacturing throughout the organization. Assists fabrication team in problem-solving as needed. Performs receipt inspections of material for work in conjunction with material control as required. This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Quality Control Manager. Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications 4-year degree in a related field. 2 years' experience in fabrication shop quality control or 6 years in quality control for similar facilities (MEP construction fabrication, multi-trade modular rack installations on large, commercial buildings.) Quality Control training is required. Working knowledge of construction codes for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. Working knowledge of regulatory agency requirements as it pertains to quality control. Working knowledge of nondestructive testing techniques. Ability to read and understand construction documents (contracts/subcontracts, purchase documents, plans, and specifications.). Ability to act as a specialist in quality control, keeping up with changes in the industry, and updating staff as well as corporate for any necessary procedural updates. Proven ability to supervise, communicate and lead personnel. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment. Versed in the industry and the Company's competitors. Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary. Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications Previous experience as a supervisor of pipe or sheet metal fabricators. 5 years of hands-on experience in the layout, fitting, and welding steel pipe and sheet metal. Construction claims experience. Certifications (welding, quality control, nondestructive testing techniques, etc). Expert level knowledge of all welding methods, procedures, and quality control. Working knowledge of all tools and equipment. Travel Requirements 80% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location. Physical/Work Environment Requirements Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles. Climbing stairs. Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Operating motor vehicles. Outdoor elements such as precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind. Noisy environment. Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
