Job Description The Process Development Technician makes multiple contributions to Lab Services' operations that facilitate existing processes, integrate novel ones, and train individuals in standard methodologies. This individual serves as a flexible collaborator, supporting the lab in a variety of ways, with a particular focus on continuous improvement, workflow process development, quality control, and technical troubleshooting. In this role, the individual will engage regularly in the lab and produce standard documentation results such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions satisfactorily: In collaboration with multiple cross-functional groups such as Operations, Research and Development, and Global Workflow Solutions, perform on-site evaluation of novel technologies, consisting of small-scale testing in pre-production, data collection and reporting to collaborators, and evaluation of next steps to project advancement. Partner with technical process leads within the lab to optimally author or update SOP documentation for workflow changes; present such changes to management for final review and approval Accumulate an in-depth understanding of automation in-house (functioning, programming, maintenance) and train other technicians in these standard methodologies as advised by management. As approved by management, produce technical documentation (SOPs or otherwise) describing the standard methodology for automation Keep current with technical Lab Services workflows and changes in standard methodologies Assist the Lab Services team, as advised, in a variety of areas, including training new technicians in specific technical workflows and converting oligonucleotide arrays to workflow probe panels; perform QC and probe validation where required Qualifications Associate degree or equivalent experience in a scientific field of study (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics) Validated "wet lab" experience performing technical workflows or experiments within a laboratory setting, preferably high-throughput labs Technical ability to read and interpret scientific data Proven track record working as part of a cross-functional team Confirmed understanding and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel Preferred Qualifications : Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a scientific field of study (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics) Experience training other technicians on extraction and library preparation workflows Extensive background in molecular biology and/or process development in automated workflows Proficiencies & Behaviours: Shown written and verbal communication skills with a variety of audiences Ability to capture and coordinate information, interpret, and develop appropriate recommendations for effective action Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions Confirmed autonomy: the ability to self-start and drive whilst recognizing the appropriate time for employee, collaborator, and customer engagement Validated time management and interpersonal skills Passion for continuous improvement, with a confirmed initiative to independently drive and lead efforts in this space Resonate and operate in line with LGC's core value behaviors: Passion, Curiosity, Integrity, Brilliance, and Respect!
