Principal Electrical Engineer II Location Hybrid remote in Santa Clara, CA : The Position Roche Sequencing Solutions, Santa Clara, is a fast-moving, highly-technical team with the ambitious goal of disrupting Next-Generation DNA Sequencing. Developing this unique platform requires expertise across a range of fields: FPGA Design, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Theory, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, Circuit Design, and Electrochemistry, among others. We are looking for an experienced high-speed/mixed signal PCB designer. As a member of our Hardware Control and Compute Development Team, you will have the opportunity to work with experts in each of these fields, focused on the common goal of bringing sequencing-based medical diagnostics instruments to market.
Responsibilities will include: Owning architecture, design, and implementation efforts for instrument electronics and power systems
Owning verification and compliance testing efforts for instrument electronics and power systems
Designing, manufacturing, and testing high-complexity PCBs and PCBAs
Working with other electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams in system integration
Analyzing high-level needs and constraints from stakeholders of multiple disciplines, and deriving system and subsystem requirements and specifications
Generating technical documentation, including specifications, technical reports, and procedures
Participating in requirements generation and risk/hazard analysis
Owning product lifecycle management of electrical and electronics systems
Driving development processes within the context of design control SOPs and a QMS
Ensuring and promoting best practices for DFM/DFA/DFT/DFS
Minimum Qualifications: M.S. or B.S. degree in EE or related field
10+ years of work experience in an electrical engineering PCB design role
Demonstrated success in bringing a product from concept through design and prototyping to production
Extensive experience in high-speed (500MHz+ logic, 5GHz+ high-speed serial) mixed-signal PCB and circuit design
Extensive experience with PCB/PCBA bring-up, debugging, and testing
High proficiency in schematic design and layout, preferably using Altium and Cadence development tools
Experience designing under regulatory standards; familiarity with IEC standards a plus
Experience and familiarity with power electronics
Experience and familiarity with PCB/PCBA designs for complex FPGAs (AMD/Xilinx or Intel/Altera)
Good familiarity with industry-standard interfaces and communications protocols/standards (e.g., UART/I2C/SPI/USB, PCIe, 1/10/100G Ethernet, QSFP, DDR3/4, CXL, etc.)
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision in a collaborative environment w/ both onsite and remote colleagues
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to track hardware issues to successful resolution
Exposure to FPGA digital logic design using Verilog or VHDL; experience a plus
Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools a plus
Experience with IVD product development a plus
Experience using Python, Perl, or similar scripting languages a plus
Proficiency with Linux basics a plus
Exposure to embedded software development a plus
Experience with both designing PCBs from scratch in house and also shepherding designs through an outside service provider as needed by the project.
Experience in interfacing with suppliers and manufacturers to anticipate EOL part replacement updates and fast track board manufacturing turnaround time is a plus.
Comfortable with converting an existing PCB design from one development tool chain to another (e.g. Allegro to Altium)
Experience developing PCBs targeted at Heterogeneous High Performance Computing (HHPC) solutions requiring multiple high speed intra and inter board interfaces (LVDS, QSFP, CXL, PCIe, etc) is a plus
Role is hybrid/onsite in Santa Clara, CA. Relocation benefits are not offered for this role. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Santa Clara is $169,472 and $209,187. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
