Advertised Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) in the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina, the successful candidate for this position will work on a research study to develop and evaluate statistical methods for longitudinal mediation analysis of intensive longitudinal data, such as that collected from mobile or wearable devices. The duties of this position are to: (1) develop new statistical methods, analyze existing data using those methods, and evaluate those methods using Monte Carlo simulation studies; (2) prepare conference proceedings, professional presentations, and journal articles for publication; and (3) contribute to development and submission of research grant funding proposals.
Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in quantitative psychology or closely related field (e.g,. biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, etc.) by start date of employment, plus expertise in the following: programming in R, strong work ethic, excellent written and communication skills, causal inference, mediation, longitudinal data, and statistical computing (e.g., developing R packages). These skills could have been gained during the normal course of a doctoral degree program.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Doctoral degree in quantitative psychology or computer science, statistics, or related field, plus the following: experience in statistical analysis and computer programming in R and Python, strong work ethic, and excellent written and communication skills. Expertise or experience in any of the following areas is desirable: scientific and parallel computing, time series/ longitudinal data, and machine learning. These skills, expertise and knowledge could have been gained during the normal course of a doctoral degree program.
