Advertised Job Summary: We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to be part of the University of South Carolina Infectious Disease Translational Research Center, a well-funded research center consisting of 13 scientists across numerous disciplines (medicine, epidemiology, ecology) with the goal of addressing emerging infectious diseases, including congenital and vector-borne diseases. The postdoctoral researcher recruited would be advised by Dr. Tad Dallas, a disease ecologist based in the College of Arts and Sciences, but have the opportunity to interact with diverse faculty across the entire center and develop collaborative, multi-disciplinary research projects. Flexibility in chosen research projects will emerge through discussions with Dr. Dallas, but should include research in areas like vector-borne disease, the analysis of spatial data, epidemic modeling, and/or host-parasite networks. Opportunities for travel to field sites for hands-on field primary data collection experience in El Salvador and Brazil exist for this position as desired. Candidates who can communicate in Spanish and/or Portuguese are especially encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications: PhD in ecology, epidemiology, statistics or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous work with machine learning models for prediction, including evaluating model performance.Previous experience with models of pathogen evolution or ability to analyze genetic data.Previous experience working with messy data (pooled pathogen sampling, handling missing data, etc.).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong quantitative skills including demonstrated expertise in disease modeling as evidenced by publications and/or projects incorporating mathematical modeling and/or statistical analyses.Expertise in a scientific programming language such as R, Python, Julia, etc as evidenced by the use of a scientific programming language in models/analyses in published works.Experience with spatial data analytics through R or another programmatic GIS platform.Strong writing skills.The ability to work independently and collaboratively.Enthusiasm and interest in disease ecology.Experience working with human health data is a bonus, as is fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.
