Reports to: Assistant Head of Middle School
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Position Purpose: To teach, enrich, and reinforce the physical education curriculum. 
Essential Functions:
Teach and plan lessons and activities for early childhood, lower, and middle school students, with particular emphasis on sportsmanship as well as eye-hand coordination and physical skills through inclusive games and exercises while encouraging a love of physical activity.
Teach students with a wide range of skill/developmental levels in athletics.
Communicate  knowledge of a variety of sports and break down each sport into age-appropriate activities emphasizing technical skills and sportsmanship.
Effectively communicate with colleagues and parents about students' behavior, participation, and skills, both in writing and verbally.
Coach sports for 7th and 8th grade.
Drive buses to take Good Shepherd team to athletic events.
Serve as a middle school advisor, as needed.
Nurture the growth of children and working cooperatively with adults; be kind, enthusiastic, creative, flexible, patient, and able to communicate clearly.
Participate in outdoor education Classroom of the Earth trips.
Other duties as assigned by their supervisor.  Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in physical education, kinesiology, or related field; may have an advanced degree
Teaching experience with elementary and middle school-aged boys and girls 
Coaching experience with elementary and middle school-aged boys and girls and/or playing team sports at the middle/secondary and/or collegiate level is preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Leadership and facilitative skills
Flexibility and patience Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Work in a stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
