Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to supervise, plan, and participate in the design, renovation, construction and maintenance of parks structures, facilities, landscaping and capital construction projects. Coordinate projects, enforce safe work practices, supervise field review of parks construction projects and monitor compliance to ordinances, contract specifications and budget constraints.
This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

•Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
•Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
•Monitors capital construction project schedules and budgets to assure timely completion within budget constraints, and oversees field inspections to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
•Prepares reports, and maintains records and files.
•Visits work site, determines scope of work, equipment, tools, and materials.
•Coordinates special projects and events with departments, neighborhood associations and the public, and selects plant materials for landscaping sites.
•Inventories and orders equipment, materials, tools and supplies.
•Enforces safety rules and regulations, trains employees in the use and care of equipment and tools, and schedules preventive maintenance.
•Consults with administration, general contractors, engineers, architects, zoning and building permit officials and other professionals concerning the design and construction of projects.
•Supervises and participates in the maintenance, renovation and construction of parks facilities, including clearing, grading, drainage, and foundation work.
•Prepares cost estimates and submits specifications related to parks facilities renovation and construction.
•Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning the operation and use of and light and heavy construction equipment and materials, pesticide application, planting and care of grasses, trees, shrubs, flowers, and ornamental plants.
•Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

•Associate's Degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Urban Planning or related discipline.
•Two (2) years of design, renovation, heavy equipment operation and construction of parks facilities, turf and golf course experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

•Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.

UNAVOIDABLE HAZARDS (WORK ENVIRONMENT)
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

•Involves routine and frequent exposure to:
Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen.
Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
