Ophthalmology Technician/Technologist SITE OF SERVICE :  Naval Hospital Bremerton, WA Full Time POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: Degree : Ophthalmology Technician/Technologist Program Education : Either completion of an Ophthalmic Technician training program accredited by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel (JCAHPO), or completion of an Ocular or Ophthalmic Technician training program provided by the United States military (e.g., U.S. Navy, Army, or Air Force). Certification : Possess and maintain current certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Experience : One year of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician/Technologist after graduation. U.S. Citizen: Shall be a U.S. citizen. English Language Requirement: Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate. Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract. CORE DUTIES: Assist with Ophthalmic surgeries. Manage, oversee, and maintain databases on all patients undergoing refractive surgery or other surgeries and procedures performed within the department Perform refraction, corneal topography, corneal tomography, wavefront aberrometry, and other specialized testing as required for pre-operative and post-operative refractive surgery evaluation and care. Provide a wide variety of duties to assist the optometrist/ophthalmologist as appropriate to the level of certification (i.e., COA, COT, or COMT). Assist in testing patient vision. Test far and near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception. Examine the eye, using slit lamp, for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers. Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes. Measure intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test). Test field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and chart test results on graph paper. Measure axial length of eye, using ultrasound equipment. Instruct patients concerning eye care and contact lens handling HOURS: Services shall be provided Monday through Friday and up to one Saturday. Between 0730 hours and 1800 hours. Shifts will normally be scheduled for an 8.5 to 9 hour period, to include an uncompensated 30 to 60 minute lunch break, respectively. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services more than 80 hours per two-week period. Specific days, hours, and shift length will be scheduled by the designated government representative. The specific schedule for each two-week period will be provided 1 month in advance by the government supervisor or designee. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
