Position Summary & Responsibilities : Operations Technician
The Operations Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation and safety of all Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) buildings and grounds. This position involves a diverse range of maintenance tasks, from repairs and upkeep to safety coordination and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of building maintenance practices and safety protocols, along with excellent communication and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities: Maintain all KDOL buildings and grounds, including but not limited to mowing, painting, minor plumbing, clean-up, cubicle office setup and moves, minor electrical work, snow removal, landscaping, and light carpentry. Repair ceilings and walls by using spackle, sanding surfaces, and painting. Maintain grounds by seeding, fertilizing, mowing lawns, trimming trees and shrubs, weeding flower beds, and removing snow and ice from sidewalks and parking areas. Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, including changing filters, belts, and lubrication. Repair and replace locks and locking devices in buildings. Repair, rebuild, and upholster furniture. Replace or repair plumbing fixtures, faucets, valves, fittings, water heaters, and related equipment. Service, repair, or replace electrical appliances, motors, fuses, switches, and outlets. Serve as the Safety Coordinator for all KDOL locations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulations, and best practices. Coordinate office safety efforts with the ISH department, including communication, collaboration, and understanding of safety standards and protocols. Enforce written safety policies and procedures provided by the ISH department, ensuring employees are aware of and adhere to these policies. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to identify and rectify potential safety hazards or violations. Maintain comprehensive records of safety-related activities, incidents, training sessions, and compliance efforts. Coordinate and document drills and emergencies, notifying Maintenance of any issues found for repair or remediation. Communicate effectively with employees, management, and relevant regulatory agencies, reporting safety-related information as required by law. Minimum Requirements: High School diploma or equivalency Valid Kansas drivers license Ability to operate a personal computer, vehicle, forklift and other agency equipment as needed Preferred Requirements: n/a Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Dependability and attention to detail in handling mail and performing delivery tasks. Basic vehicle maintenance skills, such as checking oil and tire pressure. Strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Familiarity with postal regulations and software, including Indicia postal software. Ability to multitask and prioritize delivery tasks effectively.
