Overview The Operations Shift Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and supervising the activities necessary for the chemical manufacturing of Anhydrous Ammonia, Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, and Emulsion. In addition, the Operations Shift Supervisor has approximately ten (10) direct reports. This position reports directly to the Operations Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities and Duties Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations - PSM, RMP, OSHA, and procedures. Ensure Team Members have a clear understanding of the Current shift requirements as outlined in the Special Orders provided by Operations Management. Monitor chemical processes or systems using Distributive Control Systems (DCS), local controls, or semi-automatic equipment. Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the operation and production of two ammonia units, one nitric acid unit and one liquid ammonium nitrate unit, OSB/L utility areas, 6000 Emulsion plant area and all loading activities. Coordinate work processes with plant management and other supervisors to ensure safe, efficient operations of all processes. Monitor startup/shutdown processes. Understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Understanding of process flows, alarms, and trips of the plant(s). Inspect and monitor process plants to detect potential process issues or needed maintenance. Review and signoff on all Log sheets each shift ensuring that out of specification readings are highlighted . Observe work and monitor process parameters and indicators to ensure that operators meet production-processing standards. Train employees in safety procedures, process and equipment operations, and work duties. Explain process safety information, job orders, and company policies & procedures to employees. Assist in managing employees' attendance. Manage Vacation & PTO schedules/coverage. Assist in employee & incident related investigations. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience 18+ years of age High School Diploma or G.E.D 2+ years of experience or higher education preferred. Chemical manufacturing experience preferred. 5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Skills, Knowledge, and Requirements Strong understanding of Ammonia, Nitric Acid, Ammonium Nitrate, and Emulsion production. Knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and equipment. Ability to assist/lead Emergency Response teams. Ability to wear and perform work in required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Fall protection harness, full-face respirator, chemical resistant suits, face shield, and any other necessary PPE. Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairs, lift & carry up to 50Ibs, and operate valves. Exceptional written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Excellent supervision, leadership, and mentoring skills. Good analytical, project management, interviewing, research, and problem-solving skills are essential. Must have the ability to handle confidential matters in a tactful and professional manner. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Work Environment US Nitrogen, LLC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This position will be exposed to all elements of the weather on the plant site.
