Neuroscience Group has a Full-Time position available for a team-oriented Nurse Practitioner in our Neurology specialty. As an integral member of the clinical management team, the nurse practitioner provides inpatient and outpatient medical and nursing services to neurological patients and their families. This shall include completion of patient histories and physical exams, diagnosing, planning and implementing interventions and treatments, as well as prescribing medications and ordering appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies. The nurse practitioner shall provide patient and family education, emotional support, and perform as a patient advocate. Non-patient roles will be to coordinate research projects, provide leadership in quality improvement initiatives and assist physicians and clerical staff as needed. These roles function within a collaborative environment and in an interdependent relationship with the physicians.
For over thirty years, Neuroscience Group has provided excellent neurologic care for the Fox Valley and Northeast Wisconsin. Ours is the only medical facility in the area that combines neurosurgery, neurology, orthopedic spine surgery, interventional and non-interventional pain management and physical therapy. Our practice has grown to over 40 providers and serves patients in nine outlying clinics scattered throughout the region. RESPONSIBILITIES : Patient management- interacts with patients and families in the office, providing complete histories and physical exams, diagnosing, ordering therapeutic treatments (including prescribing medication, ordering and evaluating laboratory and other diagnostic studies). Maintains appropriate patient followup with office visits, which may include counseling, referring patients, reassuring and education. All patient interaction shall be observed and/or evaluated in consultation or conjunction with the attending physicians.
Patient and family education- appropriate to individual disease state and/or illness, the nurse practitioner shall provide verbal and/or written counseling and education. The nurse practitioner shall also be available for concerns/questions via the telephone or in person. This position will promote and address health promotion and prevention with patients and their families. Consultation with physicians or staff to help meet patient needs appropriately and efficiently shall occur.
Clinical documentation- this position is required to provide patient history assessments and physical exams, writing progress notes and orders, documentation of patient and family education along with discharge planning and patient advocacy. All clinical documentation shall be performed in consultation or conjunction with the attending physicians.
Document/dictate all patient encounters or services. Submit charges appropriately and process in a timely fashion to ensure accurate billing for patient accounts. Maintain records of monthly patient encounters, services rendered, revenue generated for administrative review.
Research and Process Improvement- will be asked to take a lead role in continuous quality improvement efforts, patient education initiatives and assist in research projects.
Other duties- perform and/or assist attending physicians with transcranial Doppler exams, and other new technologies, literature searches, as well as provide assistance/support to medical assistants, i.e., clerical work, phone calls/triage.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS PREFERRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION : Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin Licensed as a NP in the State of Wisconsin Current BLS Certification Minimum 1 year experience working with neurological patients is preferred.
