Job Description Membership Specialist SUPERVISOR: Membership Director DEPARTMENT: Membership FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt LAST UPDATED: 01/01/22 POSITION SUMMARY A key member of the Mission Delivery Department, the Membership Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing recruitment strategies designed to raise awareness and generate interest in Girl Scouts, resulting in increased girl/adult membership in an assigned geographic area; recruits volunteers; assists in developing and implementing plans for membership extension in all markets; represents and extends Girl Scouting in the community through presentations, collaborative efforts, and networking; and ensures the Girl Scout Program is visible and accessible within assigned geographic area.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES Establishes and maintains relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, corporations, faith-based organizations, and other community Contacts regular and potential community partners to generate awareness of Girl Scouts generate and nurture leads. Establishing relationships with community organizations to implement an alternative program delivery model. Recruiting girls and volunteers for alternative program delivery Collaboration with Service Units for additional alternative program delivery Plans and implements effective, lead-generating, recruiting activities year- Recruits volunteers to work with girls in a variety of settings using traditional and non- traditional means. Develops and administers effective special short-term programs focused on the recruitment of girls Develops and administers effective virtual recruitment activities to generate Plan and implement virtual programmatic events to target demographic areas to generate awareness of Girl Scouts and generate leads. Provides information and interpretation of council and GSUSA policies and programs to reinforce the role of Girl Scouting Works closely with the Membership Director to develop and administer the membership team operating plan and budget to achieve the council's objectives.
Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of pluralism and diversity to members of the council and the community. Works collaboratively with all Council departments to ensure council programs and initiatives are successfully marketed to girls and adult membership. In keeping with our commitment to the Girl Scouts Law and Promise, our council places particular emphasis on teamwork, investment in the success of the organization, and commitment to each other. To align with those values, we expect that all team members will actively engage in 'all call' endeavors as announced by the organization periodically. There are times throughout our year when the work of other departments becomes heavy and/or critically timely. In the spirit of teamwork, it is our requirement that requests for assistance be met with collaborative enthusiasm by all team Examples may include but are not limited to-membership recruitment/renewal campaigns and efforts, product program logistics and support to include cookie cupboards and volunteer assistance, volunteer appreciation and engagement, retail inventory and delivery (among regional offices), program signature event participation, and support, and property maintenance/improvement as requested. KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Required Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or a related field preferred or at least 3 years knowledge and/or experience in a related field
Demonstrated ability to assess lead generating opportunities within a community Experience building and leveraging relationships to generate quality leads Demonstrated customer service skills Strong community engagement experience Valid driver's license and safe driving record Preferred The ability to speak/write in Spanish Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience Experience in sales and/or customer service ABILITY AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS Subscribes to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines. Strong human relations skills and have the ability to work well with people of diverse backgrounds Ability to exercise good judgment Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent computer skills Solution-driven with the ability to effectively problem solve Ability to motivate others and encourage them toward the Girl Scout Leadership Experience Excellent leadership qualities which include the ability to collaborate, organize, and work effectively while using creativity in problem-solving. Strong knowledge of marketing skills and/or willingness to become Skills in networking with internal and external stakeholders to bring awareness of the Girl Scout Program Work requires normal physical effort for primarily an office environment; some physical effort in the handling of materials or boxes and tools or equipment of up to 25 pounds in non-strenuous Some periods of continual standing or walking may be required.
