Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as an Outpatient Coding Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately assigning Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes, ICD diagnoses, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes based on medical record documentation for outpatient encounters. Additionally, you will play a key role in training and educating our staff on coding best practices and ensuring compliance with coding standards.
Requirements:
Education/Certification:
Recognized certifications from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and/or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) are preferred, including:
Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
CCS-P (Certified Coder Specialist - Physician) with appropriate experience levels.
Experience:
Minimum of three years of experience in outpatient settings (physician's office or ambulatory surgery centers) within the last five years, including proficiency in assigning E&M, CPT, and HCPCS codes across various medical specialties.
Experience in multiple specialties such as Family Practice, Pediatrics, Gastroenterology, OB/GYN, etc., is preferred.
Coding experience exclusively in ancillary specialties (PT/OT, Radiology, Lab, Nutrition, etc.) or specific payer requirements for insurance billing/accounts receivable is not considered qualifying experience.
Prior experience with Military Treatment Facility (MTF) coding and familiarity with MHS Genesis is desirable.
Skills:
Excellent computer and communication skills are essential.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines effectively.
Additional Requirements:
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or documented exception is required.
US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance prior to starting the position.
