A Standardized Patient plays an essential role in the training and evaluation of healthcare professionals and medical students by simulating medical scenarios or cases with learners in teaching and/or assessment activities. Under the direction of the Assistant Director – Standardized Patients and Simulation, and in collaboration with the Center for Standardized Patients and Simulation (CSPS), the standardized patient is coached to accurately and consistently represent the history, personality, physical findings, and emotional structure and response pattern of an actual patient at a particular point in time. The standardized patient should expect that male and female learners may interview, counsel, and/or conduct a physical examination during the interaction in an academic setting. These interactions between students and standardized patients for simulation purposes are recorded. The position is part-time, non-benefited. Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1. Work in a professional manner when interacting with learners, faculty, staff and peers.
2. Simulate all aspects of the scenario, including history of current problem, affect/behavior and physical findings, in a standardized, accurate and reliable manner.
3. Accurately and consistently complete checklists.
4. Inform the program of changes to contact information such as name, telephone, and address.
5. Accept ongoing feedback from supervisor/trainer and incorporate into case simulation.
6. Provide feedback to learners and colleagues in a constructive manner.
7. Must have access to email communications and have basic computer skills.
8. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies 1. Experience as a previous Standardize Patient is preferred, but not required.
2. Demonstrated ability and willingness to work cooperatively with learners, faculty, and staff.
3. Demonstrated ability to be instructed to consistently simulate a case scenario in a standardized, accurate and reliable manner.
4. Demonstrated flexibility and reliability with scheduling and assignments.
