Job description A CDL driver has a huge responsibility of carrying essential equipment & materials from one place to another. Of course, they need excellent driving skills. CDL drivers are required in various industries or work sites to carry off or remove equipment & materials, and transport them to the required places.
Equipment & Material Transportation
Some of the common things transported by CDL drivers are sand, rocks, dirt, asphalt, gravel, and construction equipment. The job basically involves transportation of above-mentioned materials and construction equipment, hence, it is imperative that the driver has excellent driving abilities. In case a driver is not skilled, then the chances of accidents and damage to materials, equipment and vehicles are more. Since these drivers will be driving large sized vehicles, having a commercial driving license is mandatory.
Loading the Truck
The job of a CDL driver not only includes transporting materials and equipment, but also loading and unloading the truck. Many times, these drivers are instructed on how to properly load and unload trucks. Drivers have to travel for long hours and work for odd hours of the day. So, being physically fit and the ability to work continuously at a stretch is a must for CDL drivers. Also, driving a truck is far more different and difficult than driving small vehicles. So, having quick reflexes and excellent vision is a must to pursue this profession.
On-Time Delivery
Being aware of the delivery schedule is also an integral part of the job description of a CDL driver. The consumers need to clear the materials and equipment from a particular place and this can happen only if the CDL drivers are punctual and aware of their responsibility. Drivers may have to deliver materials and equipment unexpectedly in case of emergencies.
Safety Regulations
A CDL driver needs to comply by the safety regulations to ensure that materials and equipment are delivered in the best possible form to the consumers. All drivers are responsible for securing all loads, and adhering to all state and local laws, and to make sure that the load is not overweight. It is the drivers' responsibility to make sure they have all the proper paper work before leaving. Blythe Development will not be responsible for any citation issued for failure to obey state and local laws.
Vehicle Maintenance
The job also involves taking efforts to keep the vehicle clean and reporting any problems to the mechanic for immediate repair. The CDL driver can carry out small repairing tasks on their own, to prevent any unnecessary delay in delivery of materials and equipment, due to vehicle problems.
Maintaining Good Driving Record
CDL drivers need to have an excellent driving record in order to be hired for this position and must be 21 years of age. Also, they should be aware of proper driving techniques, traffic rules to avoid getting into legal hassles like court cases or license suspension. Readiness to work at any hour, presence of mind, good stamina and good communication and logical thinking skills are the qualities required for CDL drivers. All CDL Drivers are expected to comply with Blythe Development's policies and procedures including those outlined in the Employee Handbook.

-Regularly works near moving machinery/tools which requires good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination, must be able to move quickly and have excellent stamina.
-Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects (over 50 lbs.), use legs, hips, shoulders, abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
-Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time and climb a ladder
-Ability to perform free of drugs and alcohol; including prescription drugs that may hinder the ability to perform the essential functions of the job
