Job Description and Duties The Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board (Board) has a diverse, hard-working, team-oriented group of employees whose primary focus is the licensing and regulation of three professions: speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and hearing aid dispensers.
The Board is looking for a highly-motivated individual who enjoys working at a fast pace with a diverse group of individuals to help review and evaluate licensing applications for eligibility for licensure. The Board is also looking for an individual who enjoys learning new concepts and processes, including new technology systems for online application processing.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Executive Officer (Staff Services Manager I), the Staff Services Analyst (SSA) is responsible for the evaluation of initial applications for licensure. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assessment, Review and Determination of Applicant Eligibility for Licensure
• Correspondence and Communications with applicants, their supervisors, and college and university personnel, and
• Analytical and technical support for the Licensing Unit.
The position requires the ability to interpret applicable laws, regulations and policies. Incumbent must possess good interpersonal communications skills, use good judgment in decision-making, exercise flexibility in problem identification and resolution, and manage time and resources effectively. The incumbent must also be able to accurately assign priorities to multiple projects at any given time and be flexible regarding interruptions and changes in priorities relative to workload. Confidentiality and discretion are required due to the nature and sensitivity of the documents handled. Regular attendance and punctuality are an essential part of this job.

Working Conditions The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting, with both natural and artificial light and temperature control. Daily access to and use of a personal computer and telephone is essential. Sitting and standing requirements are consistent with office work. Position requires some weekend and evening work.
Special Requirements The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired. Title 11, section 703(d) of the California Code of Regulations requires criminal record checks of all personnel who have access to Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). Pursuant to this requirement, applicants for this position will be required to submit fingerprints to the Department of Justice and be cleared before hiring. In accordance with DCA's CORI procedures, clearance shall be maintained while employed in a CORI-designated position.
Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
• Experience working in or with State or local government,
• Experience with licensing procedures and processes,
• Experience interacting professionally and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders and subject matter experts, and
• Experience utilizing various forms of communication to provide effective outreach and communication to Board stakeholders, applicants, and licensees.
