The work our dev team does is foundational to enabling our legislative work to move forward effectively and successfully.
We're looking for a Junior QA Engineer who has a basic knowledge of testing management software, programming languages, and QA methodologies. They will work with development teams, project managers and other multi-functional teams to ensure quality releases that define and suggest solutions for applications used by the Legislature. This is an entry level position with the Legislative Services IT office and works under close supervision and mentorship of the IT Portfolio Manager. This is a non-partisan position, and the incumbent must be able to work extended hours and on weekends as needed, especially while the Legislature is in session.
Designing, developing, and executing test cases under the guidance of a senior QA tester. Identify issues with new features and existing features before they impact the users in production. Documenting and reporting bugs and errors encountered during test phase. Work with team members and users to track down and diagnose root causes of issues. Work collaboratively within a team environment to meet deadlines and quality standards. Log, track, and report on defects to increase product quality. Responsible for ensuring the quality and reporting of assigned products and systems. Provide product readiness assessments to project managers. Understand the purpose of products and how customers use them. Be an effective advocate for users in driving resolution to all issues. Present quality metrics and data in review meetings. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting improvements to software development and testing process. Manual testing from multiple real world user perspectives May assist in providing training and support to legislative staff on system functionalities and updates. Minimum Qualifications: Skills & Knowledge
Basic Knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes. Familiarity with Agile frameworks and regression testing. Understanding of web and mobile application development and testing. Ability to grasp and articulate the user's perspective to communicate feedback and change requests. Experience
Previous internship or project experience in QA testing or software development is highly valued. Experience with bug tracking systems (JIRA) is advantageous. Customer Service / Help Desk Support experience. Personal Attributes

Must be able to work late nights and weekends, especially during the legislative session. Must be willing to work in-office at minimum 2 days per week, and 5 days per week during legislative session. Salary Range: For FY25 the salary is $27.50 to $44.00 per hour plus comprehensive medical, dental, leave and retirement benefits.
