The SPLC is seeking highly motivated research interns who are passionate about civil rights!The Southern Poverty Law Center offers internships to exceptional students and individuals who possess excellent research skills and a commitment to public interest work. The Center is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. As an internationally recognized nonprofit organization, the Center is dedicated to reducing bigotry and oppression through research and public education, outreach, litigation and policy advocacy.

Demonstrated passion for advancing civil rights and social justice issues, a strong interest in research and analysis of modern socio-political movements' impact on communities and on political violence, and ready to partner on producing quality research that advances our mission.
Driven. Ability to help our team conduct research to support countering white supremacy in the U.S.
Mission, Vision & Culture Alignment. Demonstrate an awareness for SPLC's mission and vision; and a commitment to the ideals of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion and fostering an anti-racist work culture and to anti-racist principles and learning.
What You'll DoFocus on a few key research projects by workingalongside our Intelligence Project Research team to research, write, and analyze data.
Assist in drafting research memos, fact sheets, and other writings.
Monitor news sources and secondary reporting for relevant events.
Identify useful resources, analysis, and information of relevance for the Intelligence Project.
Uphold our JEDI principles by helping to ensure we uplift the voices of underserved communities within our policy research strategy.
Collaborate with other members of the Intelligence Project teamto support ongoing policy research needs. Minimum QualificationsWe are committed to equitable hiring practices. Therefore, you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role. Currently enrolled in a two-year or four-year college or university, or a graduate program;Demonstrated research capabilities; andStrong written and oral communication skills.Compensation & BenefitsThe Center pays $16.10 per hour for a minimum of 15 hours per week. There maybe opportunity for supervisor approved overtime.
*Washington, D.C. interns will receive $17.00 per hour.
Where and How You'll WorkThis role has the following work designation:
Remote: Will work remotely.Work hours are flexible with some requirements for periodic daytime meetings.Other Special ConsiderationsThis job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
