Human Resources Technical Specialist Location Hybrid work in Des Moines, IA : Are you ready to be a crucial part of a dynamic team making a meaningful impact within the State of Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS)? We are seeking a Human Resources Technical Specialist to join our innovative Human Resources Enterprise (HRE) Benefits Bureau. Under the general supervision of the DAS/HRE Benefits Bureau, you will collaborate with the Leave Administration team to deliver essential FMLA and other leave services to approximately 19,000 state agency employees.
Location and hours: This is a hybrid position based in downtown Des Moines, IA. You'll have the flexibility to work from our office as well as remotely. The position follows a Monday to Friday schedule, 40 hours per week.
What we're looking for: Highly Motivated: We need someone driven by a passion for customer service and equipped with strong problem-solving skills. Excellent Communicator: Your ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, is essential for success in this role. Experience Preferred: While not required, experience working with FMLA and other types of leave is highly valued. Positive Attitude and Adaptability: This role operates in a dynamic environment handling a high volume of leaves, necessitating a positive attitude and flexibility. Your typical day: As the initial point of contact for the Leave Administration team, you'll be responsible for answering basic inquiries about State of Iowa FMLA and other leave policies and procedures via phone and email. You'll also monitor our inbox daily, triaging and distributing more complex inquiries to teammates. Additionally, you'll play a pivotal role in keeping the team informed by running daily reports on open caseloads and critical deadlines, as well as handling incoming mail and faxes.
Each leave presents unique challenges, and you'll be tasked with tracking various components, including donated leave, workers' compensation, supplementing, leave retention, and employee eligibility. Furthermore, you'll assist in accurately inputting absences into our timekeeping system on a bi-weekly basis.
Maintenance of internal documents is another crucial aspect of this role. You'll be responsible for keeping these documents current, ensuring they align with our filing system and maintain confidentiality standards.

Minimum Qualification Requirements Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Three years of full-time work experience in performing administrative support including one year in a human-resources-related program area. 2) Three years of education where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year. 3) All of the following (a and b): a. A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience in administrative support work; and b. A total of one year of education (as described in part a) and/or full-time experience in administrative support work in a human-resources-related program area. 4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twelve months of full-time administrative support work in a human-resources-related program area.
