The Human Resources Specialist represents the Harris County Clerk's Office in various capacities by communicating information, compiling data, processing requests and maintaining employee records. Provides the administrative support required to fulfill the Human Resource needs of the Harris County Clerk's Office and its deputies.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interacts and assists employees at all levels from entry to Senior management.
Prepares, processes, and maintains employment records for all employees as warranted.
Assists and processes Family Medical Leave Act requests, employee benefit selections, Texas Workforce Commission claims, Worker's Compensation claims and employment verifications.
Assists in the daily workflow of the County Clerk's Office Human Resources Department by handling requests that are received via telephone calls and in-person visits. This includes but is not limited to: badge, key, alarm code, and Metro card requests; direct deposit, address, beneficiary and insurance changes.
Coordinates details in preparation for the Service Awards Ceremony for the organization.
Supports and assists management in the recruiting and hiring processes. This includes but is not limited to job postings, reviewing, and forwarding applications to management, scheduling interviews, conducting background checks, and coordinating drug screenings.
Assists the office in coordinating and/or scheduling trainings and seminars offered by Human Resources and Risk Management.
Provides and prepares requested or required data and/or correspondence to meet the goals and objectives of the department and/or organization.
Will be required to work after hours or additional hours when an election is held.

All applicants must register and take the HRRM Clerical Skills Test and score a minimum of 80% with a typing speed of 30 W.P.M. and 80% accuracy. Please see testing instructions in the General Information section below.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution. One (1) year of Human Resources or payroll work experience.
OR Thirty (30) hours of college credit in Human Resources, payroll, a related field of study.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
Possess basic skills with the use of office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
Ability to work overtime without prior notice and work flexible hours as required.
Must be willing to travel to any destination to assist with office projects.
Must be able to work without direct supervision.
Must possess good analytical, prioritization and organizational skills.
Ability to communicate verbally and in written form.
Ability to interpret the laws, policies, and procedures that govern Human Resource matters.

Overtime mandatory during Election cycles.  
Salary: Depends on Qualifications
Based on 26 pay periods
Location: Civil Courthouse, 201 Caroline St, Houston, TX 77002
This position does not include paid parking; a subsidized Harris County Metro card is available after employees receive their first paycheck.
