Guest Host Location Roseburg, OR : The Guest Host plays an important role in the provision of Navigation Center shelter services by ensuring facility operations continue 24/7 and that any maintenance issues are immediately reported. Guests Hosts further ensure that guests are welcomed to the shelter, treated with respect and dignity while providing basic daily living needs. 2 Full-Time Positions Available! The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits. These duties are a representative example of position expectations. Actual duties assigned may vary and change depending on the business needs of the department and the agency.
Must be familiar with the Guest Agreement. Maintain confidentiality. Redirect unwanted behaviors and deescalate situations as they arise. Understand and implement any necessary emergency procedures. Assist volunteers and donors as needed. Oversee facility clean up, including bathroom areas and trash disposal. Assist guests with departure. Assist guests with organization of personal space. Remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations. Follow all safety rules and practices, and perform work in a safe manner. Perform general cleaning which can include bathrooms and other areas as assigned. Believe in the mission of UCAN. Represent UCAN and the Navigation Center in a positive manner in all interactions with partners and the community. Communicate in a professional, respectful and courteous manner with all employees, clients, the Board of Directors, and others with whom we may work. Contribute to a successful work group and foster a team-oriented culture through positive interactions, active listening, meaningful collaborations, and the constructive exchange of ideas. Complete designated job tasks, special projects and all other duties as assigned to meet team, department and agency goals while actively demonstrating accountability, high levels of employee engagement, and responsibility for achieving desired outcomes and measurable results. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Qualified candidates for this position will have relevant education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions and meet the minimum performance expectations for this position with or without an accommodation.
Knowledge of community resources; knowledge of and experience in empowering individuals, understanding of low income/homeless people and the causes of poverty and homelessness.
Skill in working with people in crisis; organizational skills; good record keeping skills; use of standard office equipment which includes automated systems and equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; maintain confidentiality; assure work is performed in accordance with policies and procedures; manage time efficiently; make decisions independently; use initiative and judgment in carrying out tasks and responsibilities; represent program in a variety of settings; remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high pressure situations; courteously meet and deal effectively with coworkers, families, community partners and the public. Must follow all safety rules and practices, and perform work in a safe manner. This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, bending and stooping frequently, walking, hearing voice conversation, frequently lift, carry, push and pull 40 pounds. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School Diploma or equivalent. Applicant must be 18 years old or older. One year of experience as an employee/volunteer at a social service agency preferred OR a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience. Oregon driver's license preferred but not required. The finalist for this position is required to pass a criminal history background check. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. ATTENDANCE AND AVAILABILITY Regular and consistent on-site attendance is required. Position requires shift work which may consist of days, evenings, overnights, and weekends. Non-exempt employees may be expected to work varying amounts of overtime during periods of high-volume work or to accomplish special projects.
