To create an unranked eligibility list to fill a current full time position, 8 hours per day, 12 months per year.

This is a classified, contract management position, in which the successful candidate will receive an employment contract. This position is designated as Senior Management pursuant to

Education Code 45256.5,

and does not provide incumbents with permanent status.

Classification specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job.
To provide professional legal services to the District. Employees in the classification receive administrative direction from the Superintendent.

Incumbents of this job class are designated as Senior Management and do not achieve permanent status in the classification.

Employees in this class may direct, supervise, and formally evaluate the work of technical/clerical support staff.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is designated as Senior Management pursuant to Education Code 45256.5 and does not provide incumbents with permanent status with the Ventura Unified School District.
CANDIDATES MUST SUBMIT:
A completed application, including the supplemental questionnaire
A resume
Three (3) current letters of recommendation
Proof of

graduation from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar Association
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

:
Graduation from an accredited law school and active membership in the California State Bar Association as well as any combination of experience and education which indicates the ability to meet the minimum qualifications detailed above.

5-10 years extensive experience with school law related matters and representing school districts or educational agencies highly desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

:
Must be duly and appropriately licensed to practice law in the State of California.
Active membership in the California State Bar.
A valid California Driver's License
SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process tentatively includes the following:
Phase 1 : Training and Experience Evaluation
Committee review of completed applications and supplemental questionnaires (a limited number of top candidates will be selected for Phase 2)
Phase 2 : A Technical/General Appraisal Qualifications Interview and

Community Advisory Panel.

This results in the establishment of an eligibility list.
Phase 3 :

A Final Selection Interview. Finalist will be invited for a final selection interview with the Superintendent and Executive Team.
Phase 4 : Reference checks and recommendation to the Board of Education.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment)

Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States. Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, would then be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis. The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam. Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined. All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application. Such a conviction, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment.
