GENERAL SUMMARY This is a part-time position hired by the Economic Development Director and receiving day-to-day supervision from the Community Development Manager. In this classification, the individual oversees events at the Ypsilanti Historic Freighthouse including but not limited to Weddings, Graduation Parties, and other general reservations for meeting space. The Event Coordinator will be responsible for opening, securing, and monitoring the facility from start to finish during each event. They will also monitor and restock supplies during events as needed and must enforce the policies that govern events at the Freighthouse. The position will require between 10-30 hours each week
FREIGHTHOUSE EVENT COORDINATOR PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Welcome and assist all guests during events Assist with catering, set up, and tear down Ensure that events are running smoothly and efficiently Taking inventory of tables and chairs after an event and making those available Coordinating event layouts including lighting, and loading or unloading. Securing the facility Answering questions about the facility during events Stocking and monitoring bathrooms during events Enforcing policy about how the facility is used Monitoring air flow to ensure the facility is not affected by extreme hot or cold days (there is no air conditioning at the Freighthouse currently) Ensuring the facility is cleaned up by completing a closing checklist needed to refund security deposits for events. Other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Three years of experience, training, or education to provide for the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license
- Knowledge of catering, event management, and/or community development is highly preferred
- Detail oriented and a high degree of attentiveness required
- ServSafe Certification preferred to monitor alcohol consumption at events
- Knowledge of kitchen appliances and other equipment used to safely store and prepare food
- Great customer service focus
- Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people
- Ability to write accurately and clearly

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift/move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Vision requirements for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS Works in a climate-controlled office environment with a moderate noise level.
