Fiscal Technician or Senior Fiscal Technician Location Hybrid remote in Charlottesville, VA : The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences (GSAS) at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for a Fiscal Technician or Senior Fiscal Technician. In partnership with faculty and staff within our academic programs, GSAS oversees and administers all graduate degree-granting programs within the College of Arts & Sciences. As a part of this work, GSAS calculates "graduate student funding packages" to ensure every student's tuition, comprehensive fees, health insurance, and compensation is being administered correctly. Incumbent must exhibit a professional and customer service-oriented demeanor. This position provides direct support to the department, faculty, and staff. This position provides back up to and is cross-trained with the Senior Finance Generalist.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
Calculate, administer, and update graduate student funding packages. Perform regular reviews of financial transactions being charged to GSAS. Identify when graduate student funding packages or other financial transactions have been charged incorrectly, and solve the identified Issues. Assist the Senior Finance Generalist with a variety of ad-hoc financial projects. Collaborate directly with departmental faculty and staff on all of the above. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Minimum qualifications to be hired at Fiscal Technician level:
Education: High School Diploma Experience: One year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum qualifications to be hired at Senior Fiscal Technician level:
Education: High School Diploma. Experience: Two years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Financial Analysis : both regular review of a large number of standard transactions and the ability to solve new ones creatively. Communication : communicate clearly and succinctly. Emotional Intelligence : understand the perspective of others, to facilitate both of the above bullets. Mathematical Ability : someone who has a knack for numbers and Is capable of performing large calculations, whether mentally or digitally. Capacity to Learn : learn new systems, learn new Ideas, and is willing to ask questions to which they do not know the answer. Technical Proficiencies : familiarity with the following (or similar applications): Microsoft Excel, WorkDay Finance, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, RCM models for higher education, or other budgeting softwares is strongly preferred. The Fiscal Technician/Senior Technician will report to the GSAS Senior Finance Generalist.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling to other offices on campus to attend meetings.
This position is eligible for a hybrid or remote-work environment, depending upon needs of the department and the incumbent's performance.
Anticipated Hiring Range: minimum of $15 per hour, or up to $20 per hour for an individual hired at the Fiscal Tech level or up to $25 per hour for an individual hired at the Senior Fiscal Tech level. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. This is a Non-Exempt level, benefited position.
