GST seeks an experienced Financial Data Analyst to support our client at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR). STAR's mission is to transfer satellite observations of the land, atmosphere, ocean, and climate from scientific research and development into routine operations and offer decision-makers state-of-the-art data, products, and services.
This position is located at the STAR headquarters offices in College Park, MD but is approved for a hybrid schedule and engages with a wide range of support functions.
Position Summary:
In this role, you will analyze STAR financial data and support essential data modeling and formula constructs, including "if...then" type analyses for different agency funding and spending plan scenarios. You must be an expert with Excel and/or Google Sheets and be fluent in the most common and some more sophisticated formulas. You will work with a variety of financial data sets in the agency and so you will gain a broad understanding of NOAA STAR and it's very interesting set of activities. Understanding and ability to work with data arrays is a bonus.
You need to have a good understanding of and have worked with financial data. An advanced level of experience with spreadsheet formulas, macros, pivot tables, filters, sliders, etc. is essential. Experience with VBA or JavaScript is also a bonus.
You will be crunching numbers and transforming the data into visuals including dashboards and other analytics. You will be integral to helping the client interpret their financial data and make spending projections for current and future fiscal years, and you will be tasked occasionally with presenting your findings to senior leadership.

Required Education/Experience/Skills: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience. Minimum of 4 years of financial data analysis experience. Total years of experience/skill in place of education can be used to qualify.
