Campaign Overview: Thomas Lear is running for Wyoming State House District 12 in South Cheyenne. Thomas was born on FE Warren AFB and raised on the South Side of Cheyenne, he's a longtime educator, and he's now raising his own family here. He's running because he's sick of the divisive politics that have been taking over Wyoming, and he wants to find solutions for small businesses, working families, and good education for the next generation of Wyomingites. Primary election season runs from June through election day on August 20. "Field" refers to on-the-ground voter contact efforts in a campaign, typically door knocking and phone banking.
Position Overview: Lear for Wyoming seeks a Field Organizer who will be responsible for managing a team of canvassers and ensuring success of voter contact goals for the 2024 primary election. The Field Organizer position is part-time and the hours-per-week commitment is negotiable.
The Field Organizer will receive training and mentorship from the campaign management team on campaign goals, strategy, and best practices. The Field Organizer will help Thomas knock doors, call voters, and recruit paid canvassers and volunteers. The Field Organizer will manage canvassers and volunteers to build a field team of dedicated and passionate residents.
Major Responsibilities: Support campaign management team in creating and managing a voter contact plan Assist in hiring paid canvassers and recruiting volunteers to form voter contact team Manage canvassers: train, supervise, and hold canvassers accountable to meeting daily and weekly voter contact goals Support canvassers in problem solving with technology, data, and interpersonal challenges Organize canvassing events and activities, including: neighborhood canvasses, voter registration tabling, Get Out The Vote (GOTV) parties, phonebanks, house parties, and more Support Thomas at local events (candidate forum, community events, etc) Support Thomas in fundraising call time (keep them on track making fundraising calls) Other duties as assigned Preferred Experience and Skills: Full-time resident of Wyoming House District 12, or Cheyenne Demonstrated commitment to community, Republican Party, and/or advocacy work Experience talking to voters (or comparable community outreach) Experience leading teams (or ability to learn) Understanding of community organizing methods Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to use technology, particularly Google Docs, social media, and Google Meet/Zoom Ability to work independently with little direction and as a dependable team player Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills Creativity, flexibility, and ability to solve emerging problems Location: Cheyenne, WY Salary: $20/hour
Duration: June 1 (flexible) - August 31, 2024 (13 weeks, or adjusted depending on time of hire) Hours will likely be lighter at the beginning of primary season and more intensive in July and August as voter contact efforts accelerate. Field Organizers should expect the hours to even out to 20/week/campaign over the course of the season. Contract can be set up either hourly or with a flat rate per week, expecting that hours will even out Schedule is flexible and based on the times that voters and your team are available, with most of the work occurring on afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
