Department: Choice Programs & Summer Learning
Pay Grade: $235 Daily
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director of Choice Programs & Summer Learning
Length of Service:
Tentative Training Days: May 28 & 31
Tentative Session Days: June 3-28
*All seated teachers and support staff are required to work an additional 30 minutes beyond the instructional day to assist in supervising during arrival/dismissal. This site principal will decide and communicate whether the 30 minutes will be tacked on before or after (or split between) the instructional day.
Teachers must remain in the mode of delivery (seated/virtual) of the original offer accepted. No changes will be allowed.
GENERAL PURPOSE
The job of Explore Librarian will blend management of the library collection and circulation for summer classes with the facilitation of literacy activities for students in grades K-8.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Facilitates student and teacher access to library materials with weekly checkout/in times (e.g. item check-in and check-out, reshelving, preparing overdue item reports, etc.) for the purpose of controlling the use, location and availability of items in the collection.
Documents circulation and communicates with parents to retrieve overdue items
Promotes reading to students and staff for the purposes of information gathering and pleasure.
Assists teachers, students, and administrators (e.g. research projects, curriculum classroom materials, educational technology, online resources, OPAC, etc.) for the purpose of locating resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
Maintains the library space and materials in a clean and organized manner.
Facilitates literacy activities by organizing and maintaining materials provided, presenting mini-lessons, and providing supervision for students. Implements safe and effective classroom management routines.
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Job related experience, preferred
DESE Missouri Substitute Certificate required; if applicable to the position, sixty (60) college hours may be required
Bachelor's degree in job-related area, preferred.
Background clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required
Certificates and Licenses:
Missouri Teaching Certification required
Library Media K-12 Missouri Teaching Certification, preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; standard business practices, teaching strategies; working with families; and stages of child development.
Knowledge of algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information; write technical materials; and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 35% walking, and 35% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, grasping, hearing, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking and visual acuity and walking.
