The Emergency Medical Services Instructor (Advanced Life Support) provides instruction for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Training Academys Paramedic and EMT programs, and participates in program planning, implementation, and evaluation for same. The employee will develop and deliver lessons and evaluation tools based on curriculum learning objectives; deliver both didactic and laboratory instruction; and plan and coordinate the training and educational activities of approximately 400 ALS providers, both career and volunteer. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Independently preparing and delivering instruction primarily related to ALS Continuing Education either at the Training Academy or other off-site settings.
Guiding and evaluating the activities of course participates during instructional time.
Planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating paramedic educational program offerings.
Working with Training Academy EMS instructional staff (both uniformed and civilian) to provide feedback, develop student evaluation tools and develop learner remediation plans.
Fulfilling institutional educational program administrative requirements, to include calculation and submission of grades, maintenance of program, course, and student/participant records; and preparing and submitting data and reports.
Participating in development and maintenance of relationships between MCFRS, EMS accreditation institutions and hospitals and other clinical sites located within Montgomery County.
Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
The candidate must have a thorough knowledge of the delivery of emergency medical services in an all-hazards Fire/Rescue department setting. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of adult learning concepts and methodologies, as well as competency-based education principles as applied to EMS content and educational standards and be able to demonstrate teaching and educational facilitation skills with adult learners.
This position requires strong inter-personal skills, flexibility and a willingness to work closely with members of a team. The work is primarily standard Monday to Friday, but evening and weekend work will also be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Age: Twenty-one (21) years or older.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience, in either a paid or volunteer capacity, in performing duties and responsibilities associated emergency medical services (EMS).
Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland or a high school equivalency diploma.
Training and/or Certification:
State of Maryland Paramedic or National Registry Paramedic
Obtain and maintain instructor permissions via the Montgomery County EMS Operational Program.
License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid drivers license from the applicants state of residence appropriate to the equipment operated by an employee in the discipline assigned.
