The Town of Montville is immediately seeking certified Dispatchers to join their dynamic team. General Purpose: Functions as a Dispatcher in the Public Safety Complex and performs a variety of highly responsible work that includes clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information; preparing and maintaining official records and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the Dispatch Center. Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of the Lead Dispatcher and does not exercise supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Monitors telephones and radio in the Dispatch Center, answers all incoming calls, ascertains nature of call and gathers all necessary information to transmit or relay Dispatches for emergency responses; broadcasts nature, location and time of emergency event; contacts all required personnel and other local concerns such as the Police Department or Fire Department in the event of an emergency situation; ensures the presence of reserve units by contacting personnel designated for call-back, if instructed by Supervisor; and relays information as required Determines the significance of the call and assigns the appropriate level of police or fire/EMS resources Operates a Computer Aided Dispatch System (CADS) and other computer terminals Monitors the location and the status of all police officers on patrol Ensures compliance of all operating procedures and FCC regulations Monitors cameras throughout the Public Safety Complex to include the prisoner booking area and holding cells. Reports issues to Police Supervisor Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment in clean, working and safe condition Operates radios as needed and assists in radio communications; operates base radio, as required, related to Police, Fire, Public Works and Emergency Medical Service ("EMS") Determines nature of incident, urgency of call, parties involved in incident including names and appearance if available, if the incident is ongoing, the presence of any including weapons and the presence of injuries Inputs data to standard office and department forms, both manual and automated; makes simple postings to various reports; compiles and tabulates data Maintains dispatch documents and records; prepares incident reports Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with Town Officials, public officials, the general public, other departments and agencies, and co-workers **** The duties listed above are intended only as illustrative of the various types of work that may be performed. The omissions of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.**** OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Answers other phone lines at the Public Safety Complex on dispatcher's console when other staff are not available. Makes notification of sewer, fire, and burglar alarms and notifies appropriate personnel. Assists in training new employees. QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE: Education and Experience Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent with State certification as Telecommunicator Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Working knowledge of 911 computers and electronic data processing incident equipment. Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing for word-processing, data base or spreadsheet applications. Some skill in operation of the listed tools and equipment including, but not limited to, communications switchboard, including computer-aided systems, radio. Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and office equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively under emergency conditions.
