We are also the technology transfer and commercialization arm of NMSU, working with campus inventors and innovators to protect their work and ensure it reaches the broadest possible markets. While we are based at NMSU in Las Cruces, NM and are deeply engaged in our on-campus community, we also work with people across the state, providing advice, mentorship, education, and hands-on experiences to pioneer new technologies, businesses, and partnerships. Join our team! Classification Summary:
Coordinates and integrates the planning and implementation of broad economic development initiatives for the University, to include strategic planning, communications, business, government and community relations, in related areas of activity. Provides strategic consultation to senior administration on specified institutional issue(s). Initiates projects and programs and coordinates the implementation and completion in collaboration with appropriate senior leadership and staff. Oversees operations of department and supervises staff. Classification Standard Duties:
Provides strategic, integrated policy analysis and consultation to senior administration on major institutional issue(s). Directs and manages the process of developing, refining, and monitoring and reporting on the implementation of comprehensive strategic economic development initiatives. Develops new funding streams for economic development.Provides information, consultation, and assistance to the various components in the development of strategic plans that complement and support the overall mission of the Arrowhead Office and the University. Develops and implements a consistent, effective plan to increase University visibility in broad economic development initiatives in order to further the mission and goals of the University and position the institution as a major force in the business community and development activities. Monitors emerging local, State, and Federal legislative issues and measures relating to the economic development that may have potential impact on the University's mission, goals, and/or operations; recommends strategies for advocating the University position on this issue. Prepares and/or contributes to the preparation of reports, briefings, presentations, and responses related to the specific strategic planning issue, as appropriate.Oversees the supervision of the organization's staff which includes: work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution;evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions;motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of business and economic development principles, practices, and methodology. Knowledge of marketing and public relations principles, methods, media, and techniques. Knowledge and understanding of the core mission, objectives, and functions of a public university.; SKILLS: Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Advanced interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively work with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community. Strategic planning and leadership skills. Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.; ABILITIES: Ability to compile, analyze, interpret, and integrate information and to prepare and present complex reports, statements, and other materials.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for fulfilling the Arrowhead Center's mission, including impacting communities across NM and the region through entrepreneurship and innovation, creating economic opportunity, and development of new enterprises. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: lead the growth of Arrowhead which serves a broad array of constituents; identify strategic objectives to support Arrowhead's mission; promote the commercialization of NMSU intellectual property and the creation of faculty/staff spin-off companies; grow relationships with industry, and NMSU colleges and component units, to support technology transfer and commercialization of NMSU innovation; oversee the development and management of Arrowhead Park; seek external funding from federal, state, and other government funding agencies as well as private funding entities; provide regular reports to NMSU Board of Regents and University senior leadership; sustain positive working relationships with relevant elected and appointed officials and supporters; enhance the network for investors, advisors, and entrepreneurs to serve as a resource for entrepreneurs; guide the development of Arrowhead programs; develop and maintain linkages with community initiatives that seek to support the development of an entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem in NM and the region; coordinate and lead broader campus efforts to cultivate innovation and entrepreneurship; contribute to the development and execution of creative promotional campaigns to increase participation with Arrowhead; support and deliver programming content; expand and maintain existing programs to support new enterprise creation; develop new programs to encourage new venture creation; develop and maintain programs to grow start-up capital; develop and track performance metrics; manage all day-to-day work with staff to assure effective operations and the timely accomplishments of goals and objectives; oversee the maintenance of official records and documents; maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates quality people throughout the organization. Perform miscellaneous duties and activities as required to effectively manage Arrowhead Center.
