Summary The Cost Accountant reports directly to the Accounting Manager for GARI and is responsible for managing and maintaining the cost accounting system. This includes, but is not limited to, understanding of bill of materials (BOMs) and Routings, production flow and inventory control and costing. The position ensures the plant's inventory and costing control processes and systems comply with the company's policies, applicable regulations and provides the required information for proper costing analysis. The Cost Accountant works as a partner with operations to understand operational activities for initiative-taking, continuous improvement, and decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the following essential duties. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices. Performs various monthly closing processes, including and not limited to preparing month-end journal entries and reconciliations. Prepares operating performance analysis including inventory movements, sales, and cost of goods sold, to identify significant issues in a timely fashion. Reviews cost and variance trends, researching significant variations and recommending appropriate response. Reviews BOMs and Routers submitted and performs monthly inventory and cost ledger reconciliations. Evaluates and approves cost review requests and job bids. Performs cost roll(s) and inventory revaluation. Works with purchasing and operations management to enhance accuracy of cost components. Coordinates with external and internal auditors and provides necessary support. Conducts departmental spending review and follow up to eliminate waste and ensure appropriate use of company funds. Tracks and reports key measurables to plant and corporate management. Qualifications The following generally describes the requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. 2+ years of manufacturing experience in accounting and finance, including management of people and teams. Proficiency in GAAP financial and accounting principles and internal control procedures. Advanced communication and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to financial and non-financial stakeholders, including Executive leadership. Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g., D365, SAP, OneStream, etc.). Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, focusing on Excel and PowerPoint. Strong analytical, resource allocation, and people skills, with the ability to work under tight deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
