We are seeking a meticulous and experienced Medical Coding Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a vital part in our healthcare organization by meticulously reviewing and analyzing medical documentation across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and professional services. Your primary responsibilities will include assigning accurate diagnoses, procedures, and charge codes based on physician documentation. This role collaborates closely with clinical colleagues, sharing responsibilities in both facility and professional coding and charging.
As a valued member of our team, you will adhere to the highest standards of ethical coding as outlined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and comply with official coding guidelines.
Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of six years of hands-on experience in medical coding and/or charging is required, with proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses/procedure coding and/or HCPCS/CPT procedure coding within acute care or professional service settings. Candidates should possess a solid understanding of Anatomy and Physiology, as well as familiarity with payment methodologies such as MS-DRG, APC, or MPFS/RVU.
Education: Candidates should hold an Associate's degree from an accredited Nursing or Health Information Management program, or an equivalent qualification in a related healthcare discipline. Alternatively, substantial clinical experience will be considered.
Certifications: Preference will be given to candidates holding one or more of the following certifications: Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H), or Certified Radiology Cardiovascular Coding (CIRCC).
Other: The ideal candidate will possess an advanced working knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS and/or CPT/HCPCS coding classification systems, along with expertise in facility department charging, MSDRGs, APCs, MPFS/RVUs, POAs, and HACs. Additionally, proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, and pharmacology is essential.
