Duration:Supporting the Summer Program End of May- AugustPay Range:$25-$29/hrWorking in cooperation with fellow Teacher, this position provides, through open communication with other staff, a high quality, professional childcare service to the children of students, staff and faculty, while also serving as an educational resource for university students and faculty. Duties include: planning, implementing and evaluating a developmentally appropriate educational program for children ages 2½ to 6 years old.This position reports directly to the Center's Director. Classroom oversight and direction given by the Teachers to ensure appropriate positive interaction between staff and children; model of high standards for teaching and interaction with children, staff, and parents; and reflective collaboration with other staff to ensure the implementation of the CDC philosophy, policies, and procedures. Work-study students and other seasonal workers report directly to this position. The nature of this role within the organizational unit is to provide high quality developmentally appropriate child care, primarily for children ages 2½ to 6 years old.Principal Accountabilities1) Classroom Duties (50% of time)Reflect with fellow teacher to assist in the planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate preschool program.Implement plans for Teacher's small group activities.Co-facilitateinthe implementation of daily and monthly scheduled activities.Provide a stimulating, child-centered, safe, and orderly environment both indoors and outdoors. Provide a neat, safe, and organized classroom. Notify theCenter'sDirector regarding any needed maintenance.Contribute to the maintenance of communal space (e.g., the kitchen, hallways, entryways, bathrooms, etc.) such that it is organized, neat, and safe.Implement the opening and closing checklists as applicable.2) Staff Duties (20% of time)Attend and participate in all classroom team meetings for monthly planning, small group activities, and reflective problem solving.Attend all staff meetings and contribute to both discussions and problem solving sessions.Participate in staff development and in-service training.Consult with the staff psychologist as needed; attend and participate in regular consultant meetings.3) Supervisory Duties (20% of time)Supervise FWS students and interns and guide positive involvement with the children by modeling appropriate behavior and mentoring them in their classroom activities. Complete year-end evaluation of FWS students.Supervise both the classroom and playground, and direct FWS and intern students, as needed, to ensure children's safety.4) Administrative Duties (5% of time)Maintain both anecdotal and portfolio records for each child in the teacher's small group.Provide a written copy of Classroom Conference Reports to the Center's Director for review and/or discussion as needed.Provide input on classroom supply needs to the Center's Director.5) Parent Duties (5% of time)Establish positive communication with parents on daily basis.Twice a year, prepare a written Parent Conference Report for each child in teacher's primary care group. Meet and discuss with parents their child's overall development. Provide a written copy of Conference Reports to both parents and the Center's Director.6) Other Duties (non-essential)Attend CDC Potluck events twice each year as scheduled.Minimum QualificationsAssociate degree required (Bachelor's preferred) in Early Childhood Education, or a related fieldA minimum of 24 semester credit hours in Early Childhood Education or obtain a credential verification certification issued by DC Office of State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) no later than December 2023 to verify OSSE's ECE Teacher's requirements are satisfied.Position requires certification in Childhood First Aid and certification in Childhood CPR.
