This position starts at $21.61* per hour. *Hourly rate may vary based on education, experience or qualifications.

Regular, full time employees will be eligible for health insurance benefits on the first day of the month following sixty days of full time employment. Health insurance benefits include medical, prescription, dental and vision.
Position Summary: Responsible for overseeing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation and repair of wastewater treatment facilities and systems, operation of the wastewater treatment plant, and influent pump station.
Essential Functions:
Chief Operator Activities Primary responsibility for the National Environment Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) for compliance. This position also performs analysis on unknowns to maintain NELAP certification to show demonstration of capability. Conducts all testing requirements for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, including monthly complaisance testing. Enters all necessary data into NELAP database Maintains additional laboratory certifications through the Association of Boards of Certifications (ABC) program. Distributes all required samples to the KDHE. Responsible for treatment changes in the absence of Superintendent. Provides coaching, training, and instruction for all operators in all facets of the operation. Assists with planning activities for future wastewater requirements. Assists and leads tours at the Wetlands and Water Reclamation Facility. Orders lab chemicals. Participates in the annual internal lab audit. First response liaison to Superintendent in the case of an emergency event Maintains close familiarity with the quality of influent, effluent, and quality control indicators, communicating these to the Superintendent on a daily basis. Makes mid-management decisions with little to no supervision.
Processing Activities Collects wastewater samples, conducts specific tests measuring quality of the wastewater sample assuring accuracy for following the correct protocol for each specific test. Analyzes test results. Records results of the tests on daily work sheets assuring for accuracy and timeliness. Assures that the chemicals are properly balanced at all times. Conducts follow-up testing as instructed by assuring for continuous monitoring of water in process. Maintains an awareness of all chemicals, supplies, and equipment required to operate the plant. As needed, monitors the treatment process and makes appropriate changes. Assures that appropriate levels and amounts of spare parts needed to operate the plant exist in current inventory. Notifies supervisor of the need to reorder supplies and chemicals. Conducts operational tests and monitors all equipment assuring that all is operating within specifications. Assists with land application of bio solids. Maintains on-call status on a four week rotating basis, utilizing remote monitoring Reviews and examines new products and technology, field tests new products as they become available. Enters data in computer assuring for accuracy and timeliness. Assists with special projects and committee work as requested by supervisor. Exhibits positive attitude towards position, co-workers, supervisory personnel and the general public.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent Minimum of ten years of experience with the State of Kansas Wastewater Supply System Operator Class IV certification. Valid Class B CDL Equivalent of education and experience may be substituted at the Directors discretion Date Opened: May 13, 2024
