Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) is looking for a Central Supply Technician to join our team in Louisville. The Central Supply Technician assists the Materials and Facilities Manager in managing a cost efficient and effective purchasing program that will assure appropriate acquisition and utilization of KODA assets for all supplier contracts, medical cleaning, and office supplies, as well as ensuring compliance to accreditation and regulatory standards. Assists with cleaning, decontaminating, and/or sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment according to established standards and procedures to ensure a sterile and functioning supply of materials and equipment. This position is also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the KODA clinical areas for daily use.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Position may involve performing other duties as required, which may not be mentioned below. Specific functions may change from time to time.
Monitors and documents all equipment monitoring activities including but not limited to fire alarms, freezer/refrigerator temperature monitors, etc. Investigates and resolves discrepancies of goods received upon notification. Ensures sufficient quantities are available in accordance with pre-established limits for identified supplies such as office supplies and clinical supplies. Maintains a reporting system to ensure accurate data is available for cost management. Tracks and purchases materials and equipment using web-based purchase order systems, email, and the inventory/supply management software system. Ensures adequate inventory levels are established and maintained. Makes recommendations designed to reduce costs, improve quality and/or update systems. Performs regular audit/checks of materials and equipment to ensure proper use, sterility, cleanliness and to ensure all expiring materials are removed. Performs scheduled inventory counts as needed to ensure physical inventory matches inventory records. Make sure all medical waste is prepared for pickup and is contained in accordance with DOT standards. Thoroughly cleans, disinfects, and inspects surgical equipment and prepares equipment for sterilization, and performs sterilization of equipment as needed. Documents and maintains accurate sterilization records. Performs routine and as needed cleaning of assigned clinical work areas. Documents and maintains accurate cleaning records. Assists with Fleet management which includes taking fleet vehicles for maintenance, repairs, and record keeping. Assists Materials and Facilities Manager with KODA contract driver's needs. Conducts minor facility maintenance as needed. Inspects facility, equipment, fleet, and grounds as needed. Using the web-based help desk, responds to facility and material needs. Communicates with and facilitates vendors as needed. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physical Requirements: Position requires frequent standing and walking, frequent lifting, pushing, and pulling fifty to seventy-five pounds, finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and visual acuity. Ability to stand for prolong periods of time. Occasional sitting. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and various office equipment. Must have the ability to speak clearly to accurately convey information to KODA staff and vendors, either in person or over the phone. It is necessary for the Central Supply Technician to be able to hear at normal speaking levels either in person or over the telephone. Accurate vision to read computer screens and necessary information on material (e.g., lot numbers and expiration dates). A valid driver's license is required. Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., face mask, goggles, gowns, scrubs) as required. Ability to operate computer and other general office equipment. Skills and Qualifications: Must be detailed oriented, organized, and have the ability to maintain accurate documentation of activities both handwritten and by use of computer. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Understanding and familiarity with medical/surgical equipment and sterile technique. Ability to work effectively within the role or independently and with other teams. The ability to work effectively with KODA's management team and across all levels of the organization maintaining effective working relationships and to establish the highest integrity with others to coordinate work to meet objectives. The ability to work effectively in stressful situations, to manage multiple, concurrent priorities, and adapt to constantly changing priorities, keeping workflow constant and meeting timelines. WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS This position requires working mostly within an indoor office and clinical environment. The position works in a solitary environment for part of the work schedule. The noise level in the work environment is typically low. Position may occasionally be exposed to outdoor elements with extreme temperatures and road conditions. This position requires working extended periods and some weekends with few breaks due to clinical activity. This position requires some on-call time to assist with after-hours facilities and material needs. The position will be exposed to human biological matter including tissue, blood, or other liquids, infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Education: High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Experience: 1-3 years' experience in healthcare related to surgical/sterilization preferred; familiarity with inventory control required. Relatable experience in sterile processing preferred. Experience in tissue/organ operations preferred.
