The City of Johnson City is currently accepting applications for a Center Supervisor with the Memorial Park Community Center. An employee in this class performs intermediate paraprofessional work supervising, directing, planning activities and collecting revenue for services from diversified activities offered to City residents; does related work as required. An employee in this class is committed to the provision of excellence in service that meets the desire of a high level of customer satisfaction; maintains a strong work ethic and is responsible for the general operation of the facility during scheduled hours of operations by organizing and supervising a variety of programs (Carver Recreation and Langston Centre), maintaining a clean [well maintained] and safely prepared facility for scheduled events. This individual will be involved with people ranging from pre-school children through adult groups. This individual will be involved in promotion of center activities, with the ability to inspire confidence and to be accepted by all types of groups. This individual works under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations and Programming or designee and supervises assigned staff, volunteers and activity participants.
Essential Functions of Position ( may vary depending upon the assigned facility) :
serves as leader of one of the city's recreation centers with responsibility for planning activities and performs administrative operations and functions; to maintain all public and staff areas within the facility to ensure a clean and safe environment; formulates schedules of activities in accordance with guidelines established by the Department Director displays solid customer service principles; assures the completion of all general facility maintenance tasks; plans and conducts special events for all age groups covering such activities as seasonal parties, tours, tournaments, banquets, dances, etc.; (Carver Recreation and Langston Centre) is responsible to supervise the facility and its immediate surroundings; provides a positive leadership role for staff and participants; assigns duties and tasks to subordinates; instructs new employees in policies and procedures; maintains records of attendance, revenue and staffing payroll; (Carver Recreation and Langston Centre) supervises the collection of fees and charges for programs and rentals; oversees the selection of volunteers; inspects facility and grounds on a daily basis for safety and needed maintenance; prepares publicity and promotes public participation in center programs; (Carver Recreation and Langston Centre) maintains pertinent and required records; assist in the preparation of budgets and reports; responsible for the scheduling of staff; responsible for evaluations of staff; responsible for the clarification of policies and procedures when required; responsible for program curriculum; (Carver Recreation and Langston Centre) recommends the number and type of personnel needed to operate the center; performs related tasks as required. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of recreation programming and planning; knowledge of facility maintenance practices; general knowledge of the ordinances that govern the city and the parks and recreation ordinance; knowledge of communication skills; knowledge of supervisory skills; basic knowledge of accounting practices; ability to cooperate with public, private groups, agencies and the general public; ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, supervisor and city administration, and with activity participants; and ability to develop interest and participation in community center activities with varied age groups. Walking, stooping, bending, crawling, and ability to lift light to heavy objects. Manual dexterity to work efficiently on computer keyboard for data entry.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Completion of high school or awarded of a GED, preferably a college graduate and extensive experience in community center maintenance, recreation programming and supervision; or any minimum of five [5] years of a combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to use one's discretion and judgment concerning the planning, organizing and implementation of maintenance plans, programs and positive customer service. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
