We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Case Assistant to join our team in our Portland office. As a Case Assistant, you will support various billable projects and tasks with precision and dedication. This position reports to the Project Services Supervisor and is crucial in facilitating the smooth operation of our legal proceedings.
Key Responsibilities:
Document Management: Engage in photocopying, organizing, and binding documents. Maintain and update document indices and oversee the storage and destruction of documents as needed.
Technical Projects: Create and design spreadsheets for tracking information, update indices, and generate exhibits using graphic representations like timelines and flowcharts.
Delivery and Messenger Tasks: Handle the delivery and retrieval of documents both within and outside the office premises, including court filings and notarizations.
Paralegal Support: Assist with document review, deposition summaries, and large transaction matters. Provide support during trials and legal research.
Trial Support: Organize and set up remote offices for trials, coordinate document production, and assist in liaising with clients and witnesses.
Litigation Support: Participate in data entry, document analysis, and maintain quality control over case databases.
Administrative Duties: Accurate daily timekeeping and participation in training sessions for new staff members.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
Educational Background: High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a law firm environment.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Westlaw and Lexis is a plus.
Key Competencies: Excellent organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple priorities, and adaptability to change.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to perform tasks requiring physical movement, including standing, sitting, bending, and lifting.
Capable of managing tasks requiring detailed visual and mental concentration.
