Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, exempt Career Advisor position in the Career Services department. This position supports a wide range of clients and students including community members, prospective students, dual-enrolled high school students, adults returning to college, first-generation, low-income, systemically non-dominant, international, and transfer students. This position is responsible for providing guidance in career exploration and processes for effective career and education decision making. The Career Advisor position also contributes to career development curriculum creation, programming, and instructional support. This position is not eligible for remote work full-time; a hybrid remote schedule may be available.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Career Development  Provide one-on-one and group advising on topics related to career exploration, career planning, career assessment tools, researching or choosing a major, and finding additional career training or transfer school options.  Assess the students' stage of career and academic development and promote student growth by determining valuable action steps, and support establishment of attainable career and academic goals.  By leading with racial equity, create and implement strategies and approaches to serve systemically non-dominant students, community members, and alumni in career development.  Maintain up-to-date knowledge of career and labor market trends and information sources.  Maintain working knowledge about Clark College academic programs within Areas of Study.  Stay informed on career development theories, models and techniques and how to apply them with diverse student populations.  In collaboration with the lead Career Advisor and other colleagues, assist with group career advising and workshops related to career development, as well as new student career exploration events.  In collaboration with the lead Career Advisor and other colleagues, develop outreach strategies to support undecided students or students choosing a college major.  Make recommendations to the lead Career Advisor and Director about scaling out career development activities and strategies across the college and contribute to implementing identified strategies.  Participate in facilitation of Career Services' College 101  (COLL 101) classroom presentations each term and provide recommendations/updates for Career Services section of COLL 101 online module to department chair as requested.  Maintain and review career exploration activities in Canvas and other platforms to ensure they are updated, relevant, engaging, and accurate for a variety of student populations / users, and for instructor use in classes.  Learn career information systems like WOIS/CIS360 and O*Net, and explain resources to clients during meetings, workshops, and presentations.  Develop and facilitate career exploration related Student Success Workshops.   Collaboration Work with the lead Career Advisor in implementing best practices that support career development for students and access to career planning resources.  Work with Career Services and other Clark College colleagues to develop, implement, and maintain innovative approaches in career development to engage students that align with Clark College's Equity Centered Strategic Plan and Guided Pathways.  Participate in planning and execution of career related events, organized by Career Services (e.g. career connect events / career fairs).   To make warm and accurate referrals, maintain working knowledge of services provided by Career Services, specific Clark College departments such as academic advising, enrollment services, financial aid, and community partners.    Develop and foster positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues and other college offices to ensure Career Services meets student and college needs.  Collaborate with Title III grant staff and Career Services staff to support Title III activity outcomes.  Administrative Collaborate with Career Services team and Communications and Marketing team as needed to contribute to both social media content and overall marketing and outreach strategies.   Assist with making Career Services webpage updates as needed, including maintaining a working knowledge of webpage updating processes; collaborate with lead Career Advisor on content updates as needed related to career development.  Track client appointments and document relevant notes, using ctcLink (PeopleSoft) or appropriate database.    Participate in college committees as assigned or approved by supervisor.   Perform related duties as assigned.    JOB READINESS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to explain complex concepts and higher education terminology in understandable ways to meet client needs, different learning styles, and cultural differences.  Currently certified, or willingness to gain or maintain professional career development training or certifications such as GCDF (through NCDA), MBTI, and Strong Interest Inventory.    Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.  Ability to communicate effectively inclusive of excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including appropriate helping skills such as attending, listening, reflecting, and encouraging.   Strong presentation skills: the ability to create and deliver an engaging presentation that effectively communicates information and ideas.  Demonstrated experience in effectively managing projects and deadlines.  Demonstrated ability to utilize technology including Microsoft Office Suite, Student Information Systems such as Peoplesoft, and technology to facilitate the career information and planning process.  Ability to effectively manage schedule, adapt to student needs and volume of career advising service demands.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree AND three (3) or more years of combined related full-time work experience in advising or counseling, higher education, student affairs, academic or life coaching, or related field. OR a Master's degree AND one (1) year of combined related full-time work experience in advising or counseling, higher education, student affairs, or academic or life coaching.  Experience providing services to students or clients who are systemically non-dominant.  Experience with developing career-related learning opportunities for specific populations and facilitating small or large group presentations.  About Clark College
