Position summary: To be an effective professional who demonstrates through curriculum knowledge, can teach and assess effectively, take responsibility for professional development and has students who achieve well.
Essential Functions: Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirement and show written evidence of preparation as required.Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results for instructional activities.Work cooperatively with other teachers to modify curricula as needed for students.Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to MMA requirements.Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities.Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school.Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Manage student behavior in accordance with the Cadet Handbook and Academic Procedures Manual.Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, teachers, and dean.Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (classroom, campus, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.).Attends extra-curricular activities (e.g. sports activities, student centered activities, concerts, music programs, district programs, etc.) for the purpose of supporting students and staff in school functions and ensuring continued rapport with students and staff.Specific duties and tasks: Teaches a minimum of three block classesServe as a class sponsorServe as a class advisorProvide furlough duty – minimum two per academic yearProvide residential weekend/evening activity support – minimum two per academic yearServe one buddy pack service per academic yearProvide as intramural/varsity athletic supervisor or assistance each seasonPerforms other duties as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.Essential qualifications, skills and experience: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferredAbility to communicate effectively (verbal and written)Ability to maintain emotional control under stressMust be able to interpret and enforce policy & proceduresBe able to manage multiple priorities.Computer literacy to include using the Office Suite and Blackbaud.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Physical demands and work environment: the physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physical demands: While performing this job, the employee must be able to lift 25 pounds, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and keyboards; reach with hands and arms (both), balance, stoop, and stand for at least two hours at a time. The employee must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs multiple times daily. The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather conditions with slipping, tripping and bumping hazards.
