Position:Assistant Professor of Art (Ceramics)Effective Date:August 19, 2024 (Fall Semester)Salary:The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $5,405 to $11,994/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). We seek applicants who are engaged in contemporary art practice and discourse with a focus on working with ceramic media and processes, and who are committed to the project of fostering excellence in learning in the arts in a public university context.As an area of the art curriculum present since the founding of the university in 1949, the Ceramics Area will celebrate its 75th anniversary in Fall 2024 when this position begins. This position brings an opportunity to collaborate with current faculty in sharing and shaping the culture, curriculum, and programming of the Ceramics Area.The Ceramics Area at CSULB is home to both the Ceramic Arts Programand theCenter for Contemporary Ceramics (CCC) . The Ceramic Arts Program is a large and highly active instructional unit committed to providing equitable, accessible, inclusive, and expansive instruction in the ceramic arts for a highly diverse student population of undergraduate BFA Ceramics majors, Studio Art majors, and Ceramics Minors; graduate MFA students focusing on ceramic media and process and their intersection with the full breath of contemporary art genres, practices, and discourse; and students from across our campus and community taking ceramics courses. The CCC is a combined entity and site committed to the mission of fostering exchange, inquiry, creative production, and learning beyond the curriculum among CSULB Ceramic Arts faculty and a highly diverse group of students, visiting artists and scholars, and Guest Artists who work on site as volunteer participants in our learning/making community.Required Qualifications:M.F.A. in Ceramics, Art, or other relevant discipline; or record of substantial creative/professional achievement or relevant discipline/field.
