Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor for Immigration Clinic School / Campus / College: School of Law Organization: School of Law Title: Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor for Immigration Clinic Position The University of Washington School of Law seeks to hire a full-time, Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor, on a non-tenure track, for the Immigration Clinic during the 2023-24 academic year. The Immigration Clinic provides legal representation to indigent immigrants and refugees, while also providing students with invaluable hands-on lawyering experience. In addition to direct representation, students engage in policy advocacy, community outreach, and community education. The faculty member hired will teach the seminar component of the clinic, supervise clinical students and together with students and community stakeholders, shape the docket. The successful applicant should have extensive experience advocating on behalf of immigrants and asylum seekers. The faculty member hired will be responsible for: Forming relationships and pursuing collaborative projects with community organizations, service providers, and advocacy groups, among others. Supervising and mentoring law students and expanding the clinic's strategic litigation and advocacy docket. Managing the operational and administrative tasks involved in case and community project work. Supervising clinical students on cases and projects and teaching students a broad range of lawyering skills including research and writing, legal and policy analysis, problem-solving, and oral advocacy. Working in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Experiential Education to ensure the quality of student work product. This is a full-time, 9-month position - September through June of every academic year. It's promotion eligible through the teaching-professorial track. The anticipated start date is September 2024. The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 - $11,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) or foreign equivalent and 5 or more years of related legal practice. Admission to a state bar and 3 or more years of experience in Immigration Court. Demonstrated expertise in advancing immigrants' rights and a strong understanding of its intersectionality with other areas of law, including criminal law, constitutional law, and administrative law. 3 or more years of experience in immigration removal and asylum practice Demonstrated expertise in clinical teaching Instructions Applications should include: A detailed cover letter describing qualifications for the position, including academic preparation, professional experience, teaching, and research Curriculum vitae The names and contact information of 3 individuals who can provide a reference.
