Position Summary
Administrative Nurse I is responsible for directing patient care, related unit activities and personnel on an assigned shift utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework in order to ensure quality patient care and work flow. The ANI identifies work priorities, determines and coordinates daily assignments and staff scheduling. The Administrative Nurse I takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Administrative Nurse I functions as role model who directs patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals.
Duties & Responsibilities Completes required orientation program and unit-specific competencies and submit completed packet to Director. On specified units, provides direct patient care (modified assignment); demonstrating clinical knowledge, skills and expertise. Makes patient care assignment and changes assignment as required according patient's/unit's needs utilizing the hospital approved acuity tool. Works closely with BAA to ensure schedule is balanced. Coordinates staff breaks/lunches to ensure continuity of patient care. Directs work flow to facilitate timely patient admission and discharge. Acts as a resource for unit personnel and aids in resolving questions related to policy, standards and procedures Demonstrates critical thinking skills, conflict management and customer service skills in serving as a role model and problem solver for the organization and unit Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback. Recognizes and responds to patient care issues providing direction, feedback and follow-up to staff, manager and other healthcare team members. Contributes feedback to performance evaluation of unit personnel Procures necessary clinical supplies and equipment. Follows up on repairs/maintenance of equipment as needed. Builds collaborative relationships with physicians to promote teamwork. Maintains overall knowledge of all patients' status in order to assist nursing and medical team members. Other duties as assigned. Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession.Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience to provide 'quality' patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and othergoverning/accrediting health care bodies. Utilizes hospital approved acuity tool and electronic scheduling systems, to facilitate optimal staffing, scheduling and patient assignments. Recognizes and supports Shared Leadership as the selected method of nursing governance. Actively engaged in Shared Leadership through membership on a governing council; supports department and unit goals in daily behavior. Demonstrates accountability for job performance by: (1) seeking opportunities to enhance job skills and knowledge; (2) maintaining conditions of employment (RN licensure, BLS and other required unit-specific certifications). Receives and provides feedback to members of the health care team regarding performance/practice. Maintains unit at all times for regulatory compliance. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in Illinois with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation. One year of RN experience. Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers. Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training. Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
