The ?? Sr Academic Advisor and Internship/Practicum Specialist ? will p rovide academic advising for undergraduate students in non-licensure majors upon admission to the programs. Assist in pre-admission and admission requirements, course selection and academic planning, registration, evaluation of transfer credit, and progress toward graduation. Coordinate experiential learning opportunities through internship and practicum experiences for students in collaboration with program directors and Career Pomerantz Center. Identify, create, and maintain relationships with potential internship and practicum sites. Work with students to identify experiential learning opportunities. Assist the program directors in developing strategies, policies, and procedures for experiential learning.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks
Advise and instruct undergraduate students in non-licensure majors on curriculum selection, create academic plans of study, prepare for registration, assess goals and expectations, interpret educational assessments that affect plans, specifically placement and transfer courses, and guide and monitor student progress toward graduation. Advise and notify undergraduate students in non-licensure majors on administrative and academic regulations, unique departmental or collegiate requirements, and University of Iowa academic deadlines and policies. Refer students to appropriate sources of assistance (testing, waivers, financial aid, etc.). Keep notes on advising sessions, create and store individual plans of study in the major using MAUI notes, and maintain student confidentiality. Understand and adhere to FERPA policies. Monitor the academic, career, and personal goals of undergraduate students in non-licensure majors students to develop or promote opportunities. Assist in developing communication plans to build awareness about experiential learning opportunities. Evaluate requests for exceptions to curricular requirements. Identify patterns, trends, reoccurring issues that may need further study or revisions. Point of contact for students who are interested in internships and practicum. Support students in paperwork and contacts as needed to secure their internship/practicum (i.e., directions for background checks, entry and exit document support for students, etc.). Provide direction regarding potential expenditures and budget needs to the advising program. May provide supervision and assign work to student employees. Education Requirement
Master's degree in student affairs, education, or a relevant field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Qualifications
Experience working directly with undergraduate students in an academic setting. Typically, a minimum of one to three years' experience. Experience in undergraduate advising; knowledge of and ability to address the advising needs of students. Familiarity with career development and/or recruiting, job search strategies, and professional networking. Demonstrated experience in and ability to establish positive relationships with university and community partners. Program management experience. Knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. Knowledge of curriculum needed for professional development, and the ability to apply this knowledge to guide individuals on requirements for learning and development needs. Desired Qualifications
