Sponsored Research Accounting within the Finance Division is seeking applicants for a Sponsored Research Account. In this position, you will perform a variety of accounting activities in accordance with accounting principles and standards to control the organization's financial resources and ensure that it aligns with all relevant regulations, laws and reporting requirements.
The Sponsored Research Accountant will provide professional-level administrative and fiscal support within a post-award sponsored project accounting environment and be responsible for proactively leading the associated function.
Core Responsibilities include: Proactively handle sponsored projects and awards for specific Schools/Departments to ensure accurate and timely completion of financial reports in compliance with sponsor guidelines, University policies, CAS, and GAAP
Maintain continuous contact with department business managers and principal investigators to monitor grant progress
Resolve reporting and/or expense problems and serve as an information resource for campus community
Track project deliverables/timelines and technical reports, maintaining compliance with sponsor and award requirements.
Monitor budgets and expenditures to identify potential funding shortfalls and overspending with timely communication of findings and recommendations for courses of action
Ensure the accurate and timely completion of financial reports and invoices in compliance with sponsor guidelines, University policies, CAS, and GAAP
Evaluate cost sharing commitments and ensure that sponsored projects are appropriately recognizing commitments in accordance with University and sponsor guidelines
Monitor and review subcontractor invoicing and reporting-Monitor Key Personnel levels of effort- Review/reconcile project expenditures for compliance with Uniform Guidelines/CAS and sponsor regulations
Set-up awards within the Oracle Grants application in compliance with University procedures, CAS, and sponsor regulations; and close awards within the Oracle Grants Application in accordance with University procedures
Manage award funding, ensuring that system funding and budgets are consistent with sponsored award documents
Work in conjunction with Cash Management Analysts to review billing formats and billed expenditures, offer guidance on sponsor requirements; approve final invoices balancing to final financial reports and other reports submitted to sponsors
Assist with Oracle Grants/AR testing/data accumulation/data gathering, as required.
Other duties as assigned
You should demonstrate: Excellent oral and written communications skills
Knowledge of Federal Regulations, Uniform Guidelines, FARS and applicable Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail
Ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to solve problems as they arise independently
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required
3-5 years of a combination of customer service and accounting experience is required
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
Preferred qualifications: Oracle experience is preferred
Experience with grant management is also preferred

Additional Information: Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence two days a week.
Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00pm. An alternate work schedule allowing for evening and weekend hours will be required on occasion.
