Senior Accountant – Treasury Annual Salary Range: $27.65 - $41.47 ($57,512 - $86,257)Closing Date: April 4, 2024Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer/Accounting Manager the Senior Accountant will serve as a team leader for County-wide Accounts Receivable. This position will be expected to provide timely and accurate information relating to current and outstanding receivables. Other duties include providing accounting support for investment activity, monthly and year-end closing of financial records, delinquent tax collection, foreclosures, bank reconciliation, and check processing. They will also assist the Deputy Treasurer/Accounting Manager with daily banking activities. Job Responsibilities:To serve as a team leader for County-wide Accounts Receivable Dept, to provide support in the areas of Foreclosures, Unclaimed Moneys, and Bank Reconciliation.Monitor, document, and report on the status of Accounts Receivable. Provide support to review, reconcile, document, and adjust balance sheet, fund account balances and bank balances as needed. Provide support to review, record, monitor and report on investment activity.Prepare quarterly and year-end non-departmental revenue adjustments. Prepare electronic funds transfers and receipts. Respond to interdepartmental inquiries. Maintain petty cash and vault cash balances.Provide support to prepare journal entries to record interest income from investment, bank, and trust accounts. Monitor and maintain proper amounts of pledged collateral on all Milwaukee County funds held in financial institutions.Provide support to review, record and prepare journal entries for the sale of County owned properties. Process receipts for miscellaneous funds received via United States Postal Services (USPS), Automated Clearing House (ACH) or wire transfers and post to general ledgers for County departments.Answer phone and questions received from private businesses or other Milwaukee County departments related to the details of account receivables, payables, or cross charges.Finalize daily cash reporting, analyze, and verify general ledger entries for each day and maintain filing of appropriate records.Record, store and retrieve files and information when necessary.Complete other duties as assigned and regular attendance is required.Minimum Qualifications:Current resident of the State of WisconsinBachelor's degree in accounting with three (3) years of accounting experience Intermediate level of MS Excel and Word Preferred ExperienceAdvanced level of MS Excel, Word, and Power Point1 to 2 years of accounts receivable experience Required Skills and AbilitiesHigh level of analytical skillsFrequent internal and external communication; building strong working relationships internally and externally.Read, write, and comprehend routine reports, procedures and/or government regulations; speak effectively before both internal and external groups.Regularly makes decisions of responsibility, involving evaluation of information; decisions may require development or application of alternatives or precedents.Complex work generally governed by broad instructions, standard policies, procedures, and objectives usually involving frequent changes; decisions require considerable judgment, initiative, and ingenuity in areas there is little precedent.Intermediate level knowledge of all related computer and software application such as word processing and spreadsheets.Working ConditionsPhysical Demands: Sitting, Reaching, Bending/Kneeling, Hearing, Talking, Visual, Typing, Fine Dexterity, Manual Dexterity, Upper Extremity Repetitive Motion, Lifting/Carrying thirty (30) pounds and Pushing/Pulling thirty (30) pounds.Non-Physical Demands: Analysis/Reasoning, Communication/Interpretation, Math/Mental Computation, Reading and Writing.Other Demands/Deadlines: Occasional stress due to deadlines, workload, and occasional exposure to distressed individuals within the immediate work environment.NOTE: This ORIGINAL APPLICATION is open to qualified residents of the State of Wisconsin at the time of application.
